river river, oh my river II
river river, oh my river
could i ever forget you?
don't you leave me on my own
without my fishing wire,
without smooth stones to fill
my pockets, and
tadpoles to swim between my
fingers.
river river, oh my river
could you ever forget me?
another girl lost to the
weeds and algae.

Literature
river river, oh my river
river river, oh my river
how many have you swallowed?
i remember when those two men jumped
from the concrete bridge into shattered ice water
and when you fed on those boys who
went swimming
and all those reports on you kidnapping
poor fishermen from their perches.
there were never any Sirens,
just free flowing water.
sometimes that's even more inviting.

new years poem
I have fingers made for dialing rotary telephones until sore and
for pricking; one, two, many times
and pressing crescent moons into skin.
I am a cultivation of blood—bloodlines and blood oaths
and blood drawn from sewing needles, among other things...
chewed up blooding lips.
scratched bloody cuticles paired
with blood under fingernails.
bloody scalp and
bloodshot eyes—
Blood. Blood. Blood.
and damn, the best New Years Resolution I can give is,
maybe I'll do better next time.

The Mistresses
When writing love poems,
I wonder how many loves Shakespeare must have kept.
How many you's was he writing to—
Did he keep them like ink stains
on palms and wooden desks or
did he leave these sonnets anonymous;
eternal love masked in stanzas?
I wonder if they believed
that bullshit.

Celtic Knots
my Great-aunt see's in her niece
a mirror image,
and I see Mother and a warped figure
of the woman in the photograph albums.
and in me, Mother see's Daughter
and Uncle, Aunt, second-third cousins and Father:
they see Mother-Aunt-dead woman long gone.
And in my Brother, I see tiny hands and glasses
and freckles and breakfast sandwiches
but sometimes; Mother, Uncle, Grandmother and even me,
see Father-Husband-Grandpa twirled in curly red locks and
smart comments in shallow breath and courage
and understanding and Love.
We see the universe in reverse.

Literature
soon there will only be stolen tombstones
and will we too become frozen in
marble with our names
effaced from our sculpted eyes and hands and ears
by reincarnations in future?
The world doesn't work that way anymore—
our graves are made from sidewalk cement
where our futures stake it as
their own, with sticks:
soon there will only be stolen tombstones.

Literature
Hoboken-packrats
When at grandma's house,
we pack "useless old junk" from
mangled cardboard boxes
into our station wagon with a broken radio
that only plays that channel with year-round
Christmas music.
And there, bumping along in the backseat
between brother & me, propped underneath feet:
a rabbit eared tangerine television
and a manual typewriter.
Mom tells me how she and Grandpa watched
Saturday cartoons—on laps with cereal and
milk delivered in bottles.
Grandma tells me 'bout that old typewriter,
how it traveled from Port Authority to Chrysler—
Monday thru Friday.
When this old car passes
200,000 miles and completely putters out,
I won't let them take the jolly-deranged contraption.
I'll fish it out with scissors and a shoe horn
at midnight.

Hey good miss,

With all the unreal talented artists and writers here on dA, for you to lend a moment of your time to me for my works, it's an absolute honor, good miss.

And the favorite on my pieces Matins and Halcyon DaysI know they're far from easy reads, so it really means a lot that you would take the time, and even more so that you would grace me with a favorite to let me know that at least some part of them found a place of resonance with you, it's humbling.
:iconbowplz:

Thank you, good miss, I shall endeavor not to disappoint. :salute:
