With how ai seems to have overrun digital art it feels like commercial illustration will be shortly overtaken. AI won't likely be able to hit the fine arts in the same way anytime soon, so I think if your goal is ultimately to make a living in the arts you should consider shifting towards traditional mediums.

If you're in it for your own enjoyment then do whatever. Either way, I'm not a cop.
