Or maybe that should be, "See you at San Diego Comic-Con...?", given the difficulty of getting into the dang thing?

Anyhoo, I'll be attending all four days of the show this year (and maybe even Preview Night on Wednesday, if I get in from the airport fast enough). When not wandering aimlessly about the show floor, I'll have signing and sketching time slots each day, at several different booths. (I haven't had an Artist Alley table since, jeez, the early 90s.)

First up, I'll be set up at the Hero Initiative booth (#5003), raising some bucks for that fine charity (which helps comics creators in need) while attending to all your signing and sketching (and commissioning?) needs:

Thurs: 10:00am - 11:00am; 5:30pm - 6:30pm
Fri: 11:00am - 12:00pm; 5:30pm - 6:30pm
Sat: 12:00pm - 1:00pm; 5:30pm - 6:30pm
Sun: 12:00pm - 1:00pm

I'll also have a time slot each day with my friends at the Udon Entertainment booth (#4529), while likewise attending to all your signing and sketching needs:

Thurs: 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Fri: 9:30am - 12:30pm
Sat: 9:30am -12:30pm
Sun:  3:00pm - 5:00pm

And finally, I'll have a single appearance at the Dark Horse booth (#2615), which will feature a free signing card as well a bounteous supply of Empowered volumes or issues for sale:

Sun:  11:00am - 11:45am

So, swing on by and say hi, if you get a chance!

Courtesy of the fine folks at the charity Hero Initiative, I'll be attending Heroes Convention in Charlotte, NC from June 15 through the 17th. Yay! I'll be set up at the Hero Initiative booth for all your signing and sketching needs for at least a few hours every day; not 100% sure of how the scheduling's gonna work, tbh. (I'm also not 100% sure of the booth number for Hero Initiative, as I've seen #1022/#1121 listed in one place, and #1322/#1421 in another.) Still, regardless, they'll be there somewhere, and so will I! (Er, even if I do seem to be coming down with a cold; nothing trip-threatening, but I might be even surlier and sniffier than is my norm for conventions.)

And more info on the Hero Initiative (Helping Comic Creators in Need) charity here: www.heroinitiative.org/ They've done great work helping out ailing comics creators, including a somewhat dismaying number of friends of mine.

Just in case anyone in the greater Detroit area might be attending the show, thought I'd mention that I'll be attending Motor City Comic-Con this weekend, May 18-20. www.motorcitycomiccon.com/

I should be set up in Artist Alley for all your signing and sketching needs, but don't know my table number as yet. I'll also be doing at least one panel, "Creating Independent Comics," with fellow creators Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night) and Steve Lieber (Whiteout, The Fix). More info (and a decent if low-res photo of yours truly) here: www.motorcitycomiccon.com/2018…

At Emerald City Comic-Con on March 1-4, I’ll be set up at Artist Alley table Y-13 for any or all of your signing and sketching needs. I’ll be dragging along a portfolio or three of original artwork, an assortment of Empowered volumes and "floppies," and mayhap a few special items. (Might be a li'l something Bubblegum Crisis-related that I dug up during a recent studio overhaul...) Thrill in amazement at the roughly life-size Emp emblazoned on my brand-new and alarmingly large con banner!

I'm on three panels during the show, all on TCC L3:

Friday March 2, 2:45 PM, I'm sitting in on Adam and Comfort Love's panel The Science of Shipping."

Saturday, March 3, 5:30 PM, Room 4, it's time for "Manga vs.Comics: The Ultimate Showdown!"

Sunday, March 4, 1:15 PM, room 1, I'm once again joining other Dark Horse creators on the panel "Artists Who Write: The Craft and Creation of Comics."

I'll also have one signing at the Dark Horse Comics booth (#1706), Saturday March 2, from 1:00-1:45 PM. We’ll have a special signing card on hand for that occasion, along with even more copies of miscellaneous Empowered volumes and floppies. Swing by and say hi, if you’re in the area! At Emerald City Comic-Con on April 7-10, I’ll be set up at Artist Alley table Y-1 for any or all of your signing and sketching needs. I’ll be dragging along a portfolio or two of original artwork, and a somewhat limited number of Empowered volumes as well. (Was quite startled to discover that the box of Empowered vol.1 comp copies I’d planned to take to ECCC were all in French. Sacre bleu!

I only have one panel during the show, but it looks very neat: Artists Who Write: On the Craft and Creation of Comics,” Thursday April 7, room T305, from 5:30-6:30 PM.

I’ll also have one signing at the Dark Horse Comics booth (#802), Friday April 8, from 12:00-12:45 PM. We’ll have a special signing card on hand for that occasion, along with copies of miscellaneous Empowered volumes. (Might also have a few new things to show off, possibly…) Swing by and say hi, if you’re in the area!

Felt I should mention that today sees the release of the new one-shot Empowered: Pew Pew Pew!, the next installment in my ongoing "sexy superhero comedy" series published by Dark Horse Comics. This is the first "floppy"-format issue of Empowered to be written and drawn entirely by yours truly since 2010's one-shot The Wench with a Million Sighs; thought I'd try drawing a new one myself to see how well it would sell in today's market. (No idea, to be honest.)

Cover art for Nov.25's EMPOWERED: PEW PEW PEW! by AdamWarren

Here's the issue's solicitation copy:

The laser blasts fly as costumed crime fighter Empowered battles a series of puzzlingly rage-fueled supervillains, each one armed with a bigger and more destructive "supergun" than the last. Ah, but might our long-suffering heroine's own buried resentments and repressed bitterness prove to be her deadliest foes? (SPOILER: Yes, pretty much.)

FSHOOM-tastic page from EMPOWERED: PEW PEW PEW! by AdamWarren

You can find this issue in print form on the shelves of Your Local (North American) Comics Store, or you can order it from Dark Horse's retail site here:  www.tfaw.com/Comics/Profile/Em…!

If you don't mind digital comics, Empowered: Pew Pew Pew! is presently on sale from Dark Horse's Digital Store for the surprisingly low Black-Friday-related price of only $.099(!). Not sure how long this sale will last, but here's the link:  digital.darkhorse.com/profile/…

If you're not big on the Dark Horse app, Pew Pew Pew! is also available in digital form from Comixology, also temporarily available (through Black Friday weekend) for $0.99: www.comixology.com/Empowered-S…

And, hey, if you feel like weighing in on the one-shot, this journal's comment section is as good a place as any, right? Right.

Hello, there! I'll soon be heading up to Toronto once again to attend FanExpo Canada on September 3-6. General FanExpo info here: fanexpocanada.com/

I'll be tabling at booth #P83B on the main floor for all your signing, sketching and saying-hi needs. No panels, no shenanigans, just four days of straight behind-the-table time, guaranteed! I don't think I'll actually be listed in the printed guide for the show, but I am indeed mentioned on the FanExpo website (no, really): fanexpocanada.com/comic-guests… (Really wish I'd gotten around to getting a stand-up display banner, as I suspect my table will be rather easily overlooked in the midst of the FanExpo mob scene...)

EMPOWERED vol.9 (out Aug.19!) front and back cover by AdamWarren

If you're missing any Empowered volumes, I should have plenty on hand, as I'm planning to sell backstock from fine local comics emporium The Beguiling at my table, as I did at TCAF a few months back. If you haven't yet snagged recent releases Empowered vol.9 or Empowered Unchained, those should be well-represented at the table, I believe.

Color art for EMPOWERED UNCHAINED cover by AdamWarren

I'll also be hauling along original art of various sorts, from cheap(ish) roughs to cover art to that one giant clump of Dirty Pair vellum-based inks that no one ever wants to buy, alas. Plus, I'm almost certainly taking on some sweet commissions while I'm there, along the lines of these pieces:

As of today, Empowered vol.9, the latest installment of my ongoing "sexy superhero comedy*" series published by Dark Horse Comics, hits the shelves of Your Local Comics Store after the better part of two years in the making. (Well, sorta; some poor choices in outside work delayed its production considerably.) Thought I'd post a journal in case any Empowered readers still on DA wanted a place to discuss the book.

EMPOWERED vol.9 (out Aug.19!) front and back cover by AdamWarren

Note that, while it's on sale now in comics stores, Empowered vol.9 hits shelves of conventional bookstores (including Amazon, where the book is strangely, even alarmingly inexpensive) on September 2; the latter date is also when digital versions of the volume will become available from Dark Horse Digital and Comixology. More info on Empowered vol.9 can be found here: www.darkhorse.com/Books/25-831…

Here's the book's solicitation copy:

Already under official suspicion by her distrustful superhero peers, costumed crimefighter Empowered finds herself the bewildered target of every major supervillain in the capes-and-tights field for her supposed access to apocalyptic alien technology. With a trick or two up her tattered supersuit's sleeve, can our tirelessly plucky but sadly underestimated heroine outwit her army of tormentors—and escape the long-simmering revenge of the sinister Fleshmaster?

Next week, I'll be flying off to faraway San Diego to attend the ol' Comic-Con International for the first time in three years. If you're one of the few, the lucky few, who managed to get passes to the show, feel free to drop by and say hi! (Er, assuming you won't be spending all four days of the show in line for the Hall H movie and TV extravaganzas, that is.)

I don't have an Artist's Alley table as such at the con, but will have signing-and-sketching times each day at booth #4529, home of the kind and generous folks of UdonCrew. By the way, check out some of the sweet SDCC-exclusive books that Udon will have on hand at the booth, several of which I'll very likely be buying for myself:

A truly impressive array of (much-cooler-than-me) artists will be attending the show this year, so I definitely recommend swinging on by if you're in town!

I'll be set up at the show, for any and all of your signing, sketching, and original-art-perusing needs, at table #229 upstairs in the Toronto Reference Library's Salon area: torontocomics.com/attending-tc… Courtesy of the kind folks from host retailer The Beguiling, I'll have a heaping supply of Empowered books on hand, in case you're missing anything. There, I'll be available all convention long for your signing and/or sketching requirements, and will have a selection of original art and copies of Empowered-related books on hand. Feel free to drop by and say hi!

No panels for me this year, but I do have a signing at the Dark Horse booth (#802) from 2:00-2:50 on Friday, March 27, complete with a snazzy new giveaway signing card and everything! Feel free to swing by there as well, and perhaps make me look good (or good-ish) in front of my DH peeps!

Empowered Unchained, the newest collection from my ongoing "sexy superhero comedy" series, was originally slated to debut before the show; alas, due to shipping issues, it won't be released until April 1. However, a very limited number (25, total!) of advance copies will be available at both the Dark Horse booth and my own table, if you care to get a jump on the comics-store release. Hello, there! I'll soon be heading up to Toronto to attend FanExpo Canada on August 28-31, after missing out on the show last year. General FanExpo info here: fanexpocanada.com/

After a long and somewhat embarrassing week of trials and tribulations, Empowered vol.8, the latest installment of my ongoing "sexy superhero comedy" series published by Dark Horse Comics, is now available on the shelves of your Local Comics Store! Huzzah! Note also that the digital version of the book is on sale right now from the Dark Horse Digital Store:  digital.darkhorse.com/profile/…

Alas, the print edition won't be on sale at conventional bookstores (or Amazon.com*) until the end of December at the earliest. You can order a (print) copy online right now via Dark Horse's retail website: www.tfaw.com/Profile/Empowered…

More info on Empowered vol.8 here: www.darkhorse.com/Books/19-253… And here's a 7-page preview excerpt: www.darkhorse.com/Books/Previe…

EMPOWERED vol.8's front + back cover by AdamWarren

Anyhoo, just thought I'd post a journal in case Empowered readers wanted to weigh in on the book; feel free to fire away in the comments below. I'm even more curious than usual to see what folks thought of this installment, as I never sent its pages out to the now-on-hiatus Top-Secret Empowered BCC E-Mailing List. Yeahp, no one other than the three people who worked on the book have actually read the damn thing...

EMPOWERED vol.8's title-page spread, without title by AdamWarren

Here's the exclusive (ooh, ah!), extended version of Empowered vol.8's solicitation copy:

Costumed crimefighter Empowered, her week already ruined by the grueling ordeal of "Superdead Boot Camp," finds herself roped into a tragic and desperate scheme by her grief-stricken teammate Sistah Spooky. On a reckless journey from a terrifying alien arsenal to the even-more-terrifying depths of hell itself, can the bickering duo free the soul of Spooky's slain lover from eternal damnation—or have our mismatched superheroines impulsively blundered into a (quite literally) hellish trap?

Wheeeee! The "floppy" one-shot EMPOWERED: NINE BEERS WITH NINJETTE, the latest installment of my ongoing "sexy superhero comedy" series published by Dark Horse Comics, is on sale at your Local (well, North American) Comics Retailer as of today! Feel free to use this journal's comments if'n you wanna weigh in on the book, needless to say!

EMPOWERED: 'NINE BEERS WITH NINJETTE' cover by AdamWarren

If your local store didn't stock it, the book can be ordered online from Dark Horse's retail website here: www.tfaw.com/Profile/Empowered… Or, if you like your comics in digital form (and in a form that actually contributes to the series' ongoing survival, as opposed to a frickin' torrent), you can snag the one-shot right now from the Dark Horse Digital Store: digital.darkhorse.com/profile/…

The main story in NINE BEERS WITH NINJETTE features beautiful artwork by guest artist Takeshi Miyazawa, best known in the US for his Marvel work on Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane and Runaways, as well as his long-ago debut on the Oni Press superhero-school series Sidekicks. More recently, he's drawn honest-to-Gawd manga in Japan, such as the Capcom game-tie-in series Lost Planet: Bound Raven; I felt both lucky and honored to have such an excellent artist contributing to the EMPOWERED franchise.

Say, here's the solicitation copy for the book (whose story was originally conceived of as part of the Ninjette-centric EMPOWERED vol.7):

Kick back and have a cold one with hearty-partying Ninjette, Empowered's Best Friend Forever, as she weaves a boozy yet poignant tale of ninja magic, complete with fighting, flirting, and swing-dancing with the Maidman—not to mention the outwitting of 'Jette's monstrous thug of a father. Drink up!

For the record, I wrote the main story and drew a 4-page prologue dealie introducing it; also, the issue also features a preview of the upcoming EMPOWERED vol.8, due out Dec.18. More details on that puppy here: www.darkhorse.com/Books/19-253…

UPDATE: Feel free to use this journal as a comment thread for your thoughts and opinions on the new one-shot, okay? I'm always curious to hear what readers have to say about the work, and this is pretty much my only public forum other than Twitter twitter.com/EmpoweredComic...

HUZZAH! The latest installment of my ongoing "sexy superhero comedy" series, the 32pp one-shot comic Empowered: Animal Style, is now on sale at your friendly Local Comics Retailer! More info here: www.darkhorse.com/Comics/22-45…

EMPOWERED: ANIMAL STYLE one-shot cover illo by AdamWarren

And here are two interviews I just did, in a wan yet desperate attempt* to promote this all-new issue: www.uproxx.com/gammasquad/2013… www.comicbookresources.com/?pa…

Alternatively, the comic can be ordered online from Dark Horse's retail website here: www.tfaw.com/Profile/Empowered… Or, you can order the one-shot in digital form from Dark Horse Digital here: digital.darkhorse.com/profile/…

The main story in EMPOWERED: ANIMAL STYLE features tech-intensive line art by mecha maestro John Staton, aka deviantART's own :iconjohnstaton:, who drew all the heavy metal supervillains on this cover illo. :iconguru-efx: supplied the story's fine coloring, and the ace studio Blambot handled the often-demanding task of lettering this sucker.

EMPOWERED: ANIMAL STYLE's post-apocalyptic SPOOKY by AdamWarren

Say, here's the solicitation copy for the one-shot:

TERRORPIN! POWERPACHYDERM! BRASS MONKEY! CYBERIAN TIGER! SUPERCOBRA! MAUL BUNNY! Can struggling superheroine Empowered foil a mass carjacking by these animal-armored criminal mecha at the 21st annual Alternate Timeline Superhero Auto Show? Can one exceedingly flimsy "supersuit" overcome 14 hostile tons of heavy metal? This action-packed new Empowered one-shot says: "MAYBE!"

60s-era MAIDMAN, from EMPOWERED: ANIMAL STYLE by AdamWarren

For the record, I'm also drew 5pp of B&W art to accompany the main story; plus, the issue features a 2-page preview of the next Empowered one-shot (a Ninjette-focused story), about which I'm pretty darn excited as well. I should further note that Guest Artist John Staton went way, way above and beyond the call of duty in his design work for the story, which I wrote specifically for his tech-savvy skill set. He cranked out a quite frankly insane total of 40-odd pages of designs for the one-shot's mecha and superhero vehicles, which I'll be straggling out over the weeks to come.

In closing, I must of course paste in the requisite general-purpose Emp-related floggery: Print copies of Empowered's first seven volumes (and a pair of one-shots in comics format) can be found on the shelves of your Local Comics Retailer or bookstore, or online at Dark Horse's retail website www.tfaw.com/Search?_results_u… or on Amazon.com www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_nos… .
