LIVEWIRES no.4, inks by AdamWarren LIVEWIRES no.4, inks by AdamWarren
My inks for the cover art used on issue #4 of LIVEWIRES, the miniseries I created, wrote, laid out, occasionally penciled, BLAH BLAH BLAH for Marvel during 2004-5.

You can check out the rough for this sucker, over in my "scraps" section, at:

Everything about this makes me wish this was a page from the greatest reboot of the 90's style 'X-Force' ever.

Hi. I have little question. Were you at some special graphic school or something like that? I like this kind of art but I havent any ideas how to draw shadows and many other lines like you. can you help me or I must just teach from you and other "Deviants". THX

I have to ask, what are you using to ink?

A Japanese "Zebra" pen-tip (of the "seburo" type, I think it's called), which gives me the flexibility of a brush with the control of a pen... Highly recommended! Also, tech pens for the longer lines, and Koh-I-Noor "Ultradraw" ink for all the pens.

Gads!
Is this a special, hard to find outside of Japan nib? One which only secret ninja training atop Mt. Fuji can gain you one? :meditate:
BTW, is there a trick you know that stops the ink from gobbing off the nib? I've ruined a few attempts at inking that way.:x

Er... I gather that you might be able to mail-order Japanese art supplies from stateside resellers, but I don't know much more about that. (A Japanese friend of mine hooked me up with the pen-tips I use.)

Two things: Either A) your pen-tip hasn't yet been broken in (also, pen-tips are sometimes shipped with a wax coating) or B), you're using a problematic ink... Some inks are more prone to beading up than others. Me, I use either Koh-I-Noor Ultradraw or Higgins Black Magic, for the most part.

There's a lot of great detail here. Particuarlly how you made the lolita girl's outfit look so tattered. Love the smoke clouds, too.

Aw, I remember that chapter, Poor Social. She could've done some real damage too! Big, fat, stupid, mass produced, and witty bad guys!
