Review: Emp 1-shot Maidman
Our daring Vixen of Victory has returned to us in a form of a one-shot special called, Empowered: Ten Questions for the Maidman. As always, Adam Warren leads us on a fun little superhero romp that may make you blush a little, if not feel a tad awkward.
This was the first Empowered standard comic I ever got, though there have been one prior to this. I'll be honest and say I was a little apprehensive approaching this because Mr. Warren packs so much stuff into one of his typical graphic novels, I just wasn't sure how he was going to succeed here. But he does and has a little bit of help along the way.
The form of this help come from the talented artist Emily Warren. So far there is not relation beyond the two than their fantastic work with Empowered. Within the story, Mr. Warren take charge of the writing and b&w scenes while Emily focuses on the color scenes. This division is due to how the story unfolds. The b&w scenes revolve around the ongoing adventure of Emp while the color

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST con sketch from SDCC
Behold, one of the more unusual con sketches I cranked out at last weekend's San Diego Comic-Con. Yeahp, it's the eponymous pair from Beauty and the Beast, but engaged in the tango instead of a more sedate ballroom dance, as I thought that would make the piece more interesting to draw. Third in a series, more or less, as the same kind congoer has commissioned illos based on Frozen and Tangled over the past two years.

Or maybe that should be, "See you at San Diego Comic-Con...?", given the difficulty of getting into the dang thing?

Anyhoo, I'll be attending all four days of the show this year (and maybe even Preview Night on Wednesday, if I get in from the airport fast enough). When not wandering aimlessly about the show floor, I'll have signing and sketching time slots each day, at several different booths. (I haven't had an Artist Alley table since, jeez, the early 90s.)

First up, I'll be set up at the Hero Initiative booth (#5003), raising some bucks for that fine charity (which helps comics creators in need) while attending to all your signing and sketching (and commissioning?) needs:

Thurs: 10:00am - 11:00am; 5:30pm - 6:30pm
Fri: 11:00am - 12:00pm; 5:30pm - 6:30pm
Sat: 12:00pm - 1:00pm; 5:30pm - 6:30pm
Sun: 12:00pm - 1:00pm

I'll also have a time slot each day with my friends at the Udon Entertainment booth (#4529), while likewise attending to all your signing and sketching needs:

Thurs: 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Fri: 9:30am - 12:30pm
Sat: 9:30am -12:30pm
Sun:  3:00pm - 5:00pm

And finally, I'll have a single appearance at the Dark Horse booth (#2615), which will feature a free signing card as well a bounteous supply of Empowered volumes or issues for sale:

Sun:  11:00am - 11:45am

So, swing on by and say hi, if you get a chance!

A recent(-ish) set of sketches from random photoref, including a pic of a young Donnie Yen (Rogue One, Yip Man) at upper left, with the focus on shading of fairly idealized torsos. (Y'know, like the ones I might draw for a superhero comic, such as Empowered.) Woo hoo!

By the way, if you wanna see more life drawing along these lines, I've got a few hundred more of these sets over on my Instagram: www.instagram.com/adam_warren_… (Lord knows IG isn't exactly the ideal social media for displaying artwork, but it sure gets the eyeballs, so there I am, folks.)

Courtesy of the fine folks at the charity Hero Initiative, I'll be attending Heroes Convention in Charlotte, NC from June 15 through the 17th. Yay! I'll be set up at the Hero Initiative booth for all your signing and sketching needs for at least a few hours every day; not 100% sure of how the scheduling's gonna work, tbh. (I'm also not 100% sure of the booth number for Hero Initiative, as I've seen #1022/#1121 listed in one place, and #1322/#1421 in another.) Still, regardless, they'll be there somewhere, and so will I! (Er, even if I do seem to be coming down with a cold; nothing trip-threatening, but I might be even surlier and sniffier than is my norm for conventions.)

More info on the show here: www.heroesonline.com/heroescon…

And more info on the Hero Initiative (Helping Comic Creators in Need) charity here: www.heroinitiative.org/ They've done great work helping out ailing comics creators, including a somewhat dismaying number of friends of mine.

Sketches from early-1900s celeb photos, 5-11-2018
Did something a lil' different for today's set of life drawings, by digging up a bunch of vintage photos of celebrities ranging from the 1910s through the '30s, which featured some truly beautiful B&W values. The resemblances wound up spotty at best, but I didn't really care, as I was more interested in the shading challenges the images presented. Look up s'more of these vintage pics yourself, and give 'em a try, won't you?

Hello, you are prolly too busy to answer this but I had a question?  I was scrolling around the internet when I found a cover to an old 2001 PlayStation magazine, on the cover was Keira from Jak and Daxter in a sexy santa suit.  I've had no luck trying to find an artist credit but it gave off an Adam Warren vibe so I was wondering if you were perhaps the artist? i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/f…
