So awhile back, like late 2013, I got married, then we had a baby and life and work and a whole bunch of other stuff happened and basically I found myself without enough time to render.

I'm back-ish, using up my free time and spare change to render again.  Digging Iray so far, SO much faster than 3DL but it's taken a bunch of effort to get to where I'm comfortable posting stuff.  Still struggling with many, many aspects but I suspect I'll get there eventually.

Look for more as I become more comfortable, probably still won't be as active as I was in the past and my days of having enough time to hang-out on the DAZ forums are long gone.  Such is life.

Drop me a reply if you're still around too :)

Finally figured out enough of the Scripting Kit to rebuild my render profiles.

Going to show my age a little, with sincere apologies to Ned Washington....

Set to the theme of 'Rawhide':

Changin', Changin', Changin',
Though the forums are slowin'
Keep them versions changin'
DAZhide!
Bugs and glitches and features
Just hell-bent for Genesis creatures
Wishin' my download was faster
All the things I'm missin'
Oh how I'd wish they'd listen
Soon we'll be at the end of this disaster

Move 'em on, head 'em up,
Head 'em up, move 'em out
Move 'em on, head 'em out
DAZhiiiiiiide!

Count 'em up, install again,
Install again, count 'em out
Count 'em out, install again,
DAZhiiiiiiide!

Keep movin', movin', movin',
Though they're disapprovin',
Keep them versions movin' Dazhide!
Don't try to understand 'em,
Just post, report and brand 'em,
Soon we'll be swearing high and long
Boy my heart's a'racin'
My render will be waitin'; be waitin' at the end of the song.

Move 'em on, head 'em up,
Head 'em up, move 'em out
Move 'em on, head 'em out
DAZhiiiiiiide!

Count 'em up, install again,
Install again, count 'em out
Count 'em out, install again,
DAZhiiiiiiide!

H'yah!

DAZhiiiiiiide!

Well, not officially, but I made the list of  "bonus" renders that got an extra voucher for participating with my Rakshasa Raja creature. :) adamtls.deviantart.com/art/Rak… I'm calling it an Honorable Mention. LOL.

I'm just not going to finish my entry in time... It "got away from me" and became entirely too epic with over 80 complex figures.

I won't throw the work away but it'll be awhile still before I manage to finish the piece.  There's at least 30 hours of rendering remaining plus massive amounts of post work (since I have to stitch multiple renders together).

Ah well, maybe next time.

So based on this poll adamtls.deviantart.com/journal… it looks more epic is more epic!

Therefore for the Mercenary Studio's WAR Contest www.mercenary-studios.com/inde… I intend to do attempt the most "epic" (sized) render I've ever done.  It is going to be SO big that for the first time since I've had a 64-bit edition of DAZ Studio, I'm going to be required to break it into multiple renders and assemble them in postwork.  My initial estimates are the it will take 4 sections, each requiring 8-10GB of RAM to render, and since I want it be truly epic, it'll probably be three pass rendering.

No, I won't tell you what I'm doing :P  It will probably not be done until right at the deadline (7/31) anyway... But suffice to say, it will be "epic."

(and it's all your fault)

(and mind for encouraging you)

Title says it all really!  I finally had a piece make it into the DAZ Studio Monthly Gallery www.daz3d.com/i/galleries/0?id… and got my lovely lil Voucher to go with it!  Woohoo!

It was my big Dragon Battle Render posted here adamtls.deviantart.com/art/The… that finally did it. :)

Thanks to tug for pushing me to submit it and thanks to anyone that might've voted for it!

Woot!  It finished!

5 days, 17 hours almost to the minute.  ROFL.  Never again. >.>

Now it's time to render masks and do the postwork!

So I *really* tried to have a new Centaur piece out by 4/16 (which was Draw a Centaur Day apparently), but alas, I went plant happy and the render is STILL not finished.

Currently at 54% after 3 Days, 10 hours.  @_@

It looks SOOO good I don't want to stop it.  I'm only hoping that now that it's past most of the tree tops, it'll pick up speed and finish soon (and that I don't discover some mistake I didn't catch in the pre-final renders).

Once it's done, I'll still have to go back and render masks for postwork, etc.  Best case scenario, I'd think we're still 4 days away from it being "done."

Yikes.

That is all.

Update: I have decided to take a break from the DAZ forums for a bit.  I haven't produced any substantial piece of art since the last of the tarot series.  If you see me posting there and it isn't a response to one of my freebies or tutorials, please kick my ass for me.  At least before May.

No, not an April Fool's joke.

The bulk of the move is done.  I'm 98% unpacked and settled in.  Loving the MUCH shorter commute to work and back.

Now I have to get up the motivation to handle that last 2%. ^_^

The cafe' where I have one of my Overwhelmed adamtls.deviantart.com/art/Adv… prints at called this morning to tell me it sold! BOOYAH!

I'd seen rumblings of this type of thing in the 3D Art realm for awhile, but never expected it to happen to me OR for it to affect me as much as it has.

Another art site explained to me that what I do is not art and asked me to remove all my submissions from their site.

Now I realize that I'm standing on the back of other talented artists to make my work but I know that not just anyone can make the work I make even given the same resources.

The funny thing (to me) is that in the few days I was there, I had already garnered 1000 page views about 2 dozen watchers... so I felt moderately popular.  I guess that's what makes it worse because it damn sure hurts and has seriously undermined my motivation.

It's not important about what site it was any more so let's just not bring that up.

... 10K hits!

I'm at like 9538 at the time of writing.

So what should I do for a 10k celebration?

It's been awhile since I've done a centaur render...
Or maybe more gothic/macabre kind of stuff?
Or another giant scene... See if I can break 10GB of RAM?

What do you guys think?

Lemme know!

So I went back to try and continue the Adventure Classics series and actually sat down and tried to finish part 3 which is from the Against the Giants model series...  Unfortunately my muse got distracted by new armor for goblins from Predatron and so you ended up with part 04, Overwhelmed in the Mines adamtls.deviantart.com/art/Adv… which is a quasi-Mines of Moria inspired render.

I keep trying to push the bounds of what DAZ Studio can do and I think I am. ^_^;;  One of my favorite things about the render is that I lit the whole thing with only 4 point lights and they're exactly where you'd expect them (top/bottom of the staff, hand of the cleric, tip of the mage's wand).  No other lighting, IBL, etc. was used.  @_@

It really is awesome if you download it.  :P

Otherwise, I'm still trying to get used to the Wacom even though I didn't use it at all for the postwork this go around.

I may upload select ones to my dA page but the culled gallery of photographs can be found on my personal webspace here -> www.tall-tales-racing.com/img/… am in a few of the pictures, but mainly I was behind the camera.  All of these were taking with my silly little point and shoot Casio camera, but it did a great job IMO!  I'll take the onus on the blurriness of the snow and asian leopard shots as I was fiddling with the camera and didn't have it in the right mode when we approached those.

I had a blast and will be back for sure.

So finished up some work here in San Diego on Tuesday and now I'm hanging with some friends and seeing the sites.  Had the opportunity to hit OB, Balboa Park, the Zoo, etc.  Headed to the Wild Life Park tomorrow and I'm pretty excited.

Also headed out to some great local food and Ballast Point Brewery (which rocked) (went for the tour, got the t-shirt)!

Only downer is while I was out at the beach today (got lots of photos of waves and wildlife) I stepped in a hole and twisted the hell out of my ankle.  Nice and yellow, but hopefully it'll be better soon.  Got some major ibuprofen and my boots so I'll be OK at the park tomorrow since it's mostly riding and very minimal walking.

On Saturday we're going to do the Naval Museum and harbor tour though so cross your fingers that the ankle is better by then!
