Take2 or Double-take

    Cadence Favian is a 17 year old high school student with the amazing ability to flawlessly complete any mental or physical, skill based, task on her second attempt. She must fail her first try at something, but she can perform it perfectly on her second try. She is gifted with a hyper intelligence that allows her to reverse engineer exactly how to do something by analyzing her own failed attempt. It happens instantly in her mind. For example, if she wanted to hit a bullseye, her first attempt would miss wildly, but from that failure she would know instantly how to make corrections and hit her target dead center on the next attempt.

    In order to obtain her desired outcome, she performs almost all tasks twice in rapid succession. She is also limited to actions she can fail without serious injury. Climbing a building would be easy enough to fail and reattempt; jumping off the top of said building would be an impossibility because she would not survive the first attempt. Mental tasks do not require the same risks, so she tends to lean on those skills first. Failing to hack into a secret database would not harm her physically, and the second attempt would give her access to any information she desires. Because of this she has collected all kinds of classified government information, and can hack, program, and reprogram almost anything.

    Once she has successfully performed an action she must master it through practice. She must fail and succeed, fail and succeed, over and over until she has mastered the skill. Once mastered, she may no longer have to fail first to succeed. This is how she is able to perform day to day essentials such as walking, eating, talking, etc.  However she has no idea how many repetitions it may take to master a skill, so she must constantly work in twos and keep track of how many times she has attempted an action. She keeps track with tallies in her notebooks or anywhere she has a surface to write. She also carries two of everything just in case the first object gets broken in a failed attempt.

    Because she is constantly repeating actions in twos, carrying two of everything, and keeping count of everything in twos, everyone believes she suffers from Obsessive Compulsion Disorder. No one would ever believe she could flawlessly perform a backward somersault because she always seems to be injuring herself in clumsy accidents. Also, no one would believe she could easily solve complex physics equations because of her record of failed math tests.

    Inspired by an online video showing footage of people doing incredible things at a mental institution, Cadence is beginning to work toward mastering as many useful skills as possible including parkour. The results have been amazing but painful. She is also pretty sure she can learn to dodge bullets if she can get a bullet proof vest for practice. She wants to be like the famous hero The Overseer. She might call herself Take2, Double-take, or maybe both…the name is a work in progress.
