Monsters

When I was a kid I was afraid of everything. I did not like to be scared! But I loved Halloween...I loved to wear costumes, I loved eating too much candy, and I loved that there was so much orange everywhere!

One Halloween Pepsi and Doritos ran a promotion with the classic Universal Monsters! I had never seen them before, and I remember my mom telling me about them as we passed big cardboard cutouts of Dracula, the mummy, and the bride of Frankenstein at Walmart while shopping for Halloween candy. Apparently my older sister was somewhat familiar with them, because I remember her educating me about their few weaknesses: steaks, silver bullets, etc.

Like I said, I was afraid of everything, but for some reason I found these monster all so appealing. Seeing them at every store we visited that October (my mom was a Pepsi drinker so we had plenty of soda packs with monsters on them at home as well) made me feel very Halloweeny! They were stuck in my mind from that point on thanks to that promotion.

I remember many Octobers in my childhood getting excited about the approaching holiday and drawing vampires, werewolves, and Frankenstein’s Monster. Last year I tried my take on these monsters!
