A network of planets orbiting a binary neutron star system whiteness the most powerful event in the known universe. A gamma ray burst, this burst was projected after the two neutron stars which have been spinning and orbiting each other at phenomenal speeds impacted one another, as a result they sent out a huge burst that tore through one of the larger planets in the system. Over the past years the system has sent out gamma ray bursts but usually small ones that have not had an impact on any of the planets in the system, but this time luck ran out.

UPDATE: changed the big shadow behind the smaller planet and changed the border to coincide better with the print, the wallpaper versions will be submitted later in a pack:

Here is my first large project piece of the new year and i thought id start with a bang.
This is also my entry to the sci-fi wallpaper contest which is why it has a pretty cool background border to fit the chosen resolution of the entry which is 1920x1200.

With this picture i was trying to keep a rather vivid colour pallet instead of my usual rather washed and de-saturated pallet.
The print of this piece has a much small border and title mainly cause as a print this large border wouldn't work well. Hope you like i had great fun making it and i will upload some other resolutions later on.

The wallpaper pack can be found here [link]

Don't lie to us. We few enlightened ones know that hidden within the blue in the upper right corner is actually Nanoha using her Starlight Breaker (aka 'Friendship Cannon') to befriend the whole world.....we couldn't handle that much pure friendship though.

Absolutely beautiful artwork here. So many spacescape artworks, so little time...

That awkward moment when that superweapon you've spent the last 25-30 years developing is finally test fired and the results exponentially exceed the estimates......

Hmm yeah I see, they seem to have painted over some bits of it. Pretty rude, thanks for the heads up I shall reach out to them and see if I can settle it :ahoy:

Nice art piece.

That being said, a gamma ray bust wouldn't destroy a planet like that, it's a burst of extreme radiation in the form of gamma rays, it has
no mass, therefore it can't make any sort of physical impact. That being said, while it can't destroy a planet, a gamma ray burst CAN effectively
render a planet lifeless.

Probably not exactly like this, I think they are considerably wider and likely not visible in the visible light spectrum, if they did hit a planet it would likely just cook it and strip it of any atmosphere turning it into a barren rock rather than esplode it like this :ahoy:
