This is the side of "steampunk" people rarely see it seems. As a fashion editor, I'm suppose to try my best to find the trends before they hit and steampunk was just getting started when I did this shoot for Gothic Beauty Magazine (issue 24). There was then, and still very much so now, people slapping on a few gears to Victorian wear and calling it steampunk. No one explores the very fun more sci fi slant it can have with that hint of retro.

This shoot is about... oh wow, I think almost 3,4 years old now. I got so burnt out with steampunk (I've seen too many top hats with goggles these days) that I just abandoned it altogether. But I think I want to pay another visit to it again.... doing it all sky captain like of course. Forget those annoying bustles!

Goggles were a custom creation by Atome Fabrik!

That gun was a toy gun I modded out myself and it's pretty freakin' cool. :P

I'm the model and Aaron Kennison shot it. By the way - do you see all the grungy aspects? That's because I'm filthy, we shot in a real and very working boiler room that was about 150 years old. Very greasy, very dirty, very freakin' hot!

Hi!
First of all, I'd like to say that I really love your work. You're simply awesome!
Me and some friends are planning a steampunk-LARP and we need some inspiration-photos for our website. I wonder, could we use this photo? Of course we will link it all back to you and give you credit on the website.
Here's our website [link] observe that it's under construction! It's in swedish, but I thought that you might would like too see it at least.
If you wanna know more about the LARP, fell freee to ask! :)

I actually have this picture on my wall. Took it out of that particular issue of gothic beauty. Fell in love with the look. And after reading this, you made that gun yourself? jesus, that's awesome. I assumed this since was a shoot, everything was provided for you. I actually have a lot of your pictures on my wall, you were my favorite writer in that magazine. I believe one you have on a white, black, and green stripped corset and an eyepatch.

Looks like a clip form a 1920's sci-fi film. The glasses in particular look amazing.

Wasn't this image used for our steampunk gothcoming a few years back?

Yep, yep! I designed the flier! Heh! Before that it was a fashion feature in a magazine. You in Ohio I take it?

Yup right here in Columbus, I actually run the Columbus steampunk group. I'f you have been to any of the incarnations of Outland you have probably seen me around at some point.

Oh okay, I know I saw you at Gothcoming 2K9, even though I was pretty flippin' smashed within an hour of getting there. Heavens only know how I made it on stage for the Gothcoming Queen & King contest without falling!!!!

And yep, been to *all* the Outlands, hahahaha. The first dive bar will always be my fave.

Yeah I have some fond memories of the place on Perry. Well if you are ever looking for a male model feel free to hit me up!

Most excellent!!! Male models who are good looking and can actually model are in short supply, so thanks!

Were you at the steampunk suicide ball? I thought I saw you but wasn't sure.

Bright red hair, goggles, my silly gun? Then yep, that was me! I thought I saw you, but then realized I didn't know your name and felt a bit weird going, "Do I know you from DA?" In retrospect though, I totally should have, we could have had a drink and talked finally!

I was reading the description and I agree... I love how you've added a sci-fi twist to the steampunk look. It makes it pass off as being original. =P

Heh, thank you so much! I like a little more sci fi with my steampunk. :) There's only so many goggles on top hats I can take. :P
