T.A.R.A.N.A. by AceDarkfire T.A.R.A.N.A. by AceDarkfire
First time I've drawn since August of last year, literally trying to get myself back into it since I'm taking a break from doing 3D work, and since going to Westwood ended up being a bust, missing a loan I was unable to get in the first place, yada-yada-yada...

When I get some tracing paper, I'll do an ink-version, as I am not willing to ruin the original drawing to accomplish that. I've done that to a previous few drawings over the years and have highly regretted it.

Very nice! Do I detect a certain KOS-MOS-ish feel to this? :)

You would, actually - I used KOS-MOS as an idea base for this. (Sorry for the wickedly late reply, lotta comments at the moment and life hasn't been too friendly much of the time).

No worries on the lateness. I'm having issues getting to my messages myself.

Your 3D stuff kicks ass, but I like where you're going with this.

Armor and anatomy can be a bitch to draw, so high five!

Anatomy gets hard, I need to get into an art class eventually and refesh my skill, as I tend to suck with dynamic poses.

If they werent on her arms I'd think that was all some kind of elaborate rifle scope :)

Yeah I kinda get what you mean about inking, one mistake and its fudged. But frankly I don't mind too many mistakes in my art, reminds me im human :D especially when surrounded with all of these artists who are clearly much better than me.

Yeah, I don't mind mistakes too much, I'm just fed up with ending up ruining a very good base drawing for an iffy inking job.

Wow, I can see a lot of evolution from the older drawings in your gallery. I quite like the...er...whatever-they-are bits around her feet and arms. You definitely have a skill for drawing mechanical things.

I actually spent a few days off an on on this one. I wanted to do something bit more dynamic, but as a way to show off a character, I decided to keep a simple pose.

As far as simple goes, for what I intend to use this character for, I need to dumb down a lot of the details to make her easier to draw repeatedly.

Ah, it's always a tough call when you have to decide how to "conserve" some details in a character.

Primarily, I need to "dumb down" her arms a bit. I'll keep bits and pieces on the upper arms, wrists and lower arms.

The primary challenge when doing it, is keeping her from looking like a 1:1 rip of KOS-MOS from Xenosaga.

Well, when in doubt, silhouette thumbnails are always a good way to polish up a design.
