So, after a bit of a hiatus from the internet side of art, I've started putting up prints (including many people's fave, Synesthesia), and launched my website, www.CarlyBodnar.com, even though it's not quite done yet. I've also put up some new paintings, which mark something of a new direction for me.  Instead of trying to design images, I'm using a more intuitive, enjoyable, and sustainable approach.  For the first time in long time, I'm really enjoying what I'm doing, and I feel like it's something that really adds to the dialogue of the art scene.  This work has developed out of an interaction between myself and each painting. I begin without a preconceived image in mind – only a process. Each panel is broken in with color and gesture, elements that lend themselves to impulse and entropy. Eventually, as each piece becomes more chaotic and less tolerable, suggestions of forms begin to appear: a highlight or shadow, an edge, illusory depth. The urge to identify visual information as familiar, tangible and concrete is a natural instinct. Prosopagnosia, or face-blindness, is a neurological condition characterized by the inability to recognize or distinguish between faces.  It is not a vision problem -- a prosopagnosiac can see faces perfectly clearly -- instead it is a malfunction in the recognition center of the brain.  For a face-blind person, faces no longer serve as identifying elements of other individuals (or even themselves). I find conditions of this sort interesting on both scientific and artistic grounds.  Prosopagnosia is particularly compelling because science, art, and our own experience all demonstrate how essential the human face is to the human brain.  One of
