Just realized that the amalgamate says human play before recognizing Sans, which might mean that since they were injected with so much Determination that they could remember resets. They mistake Sans for Frisk initially because Frisk usually is the only one that went down there other than Alphys and plays with the dog amalgamate. But that is just a theory, a AU theory.
