I met a man who feared men, it was the oddest thing. It was a situation where we had no choice to be alone together and he was sweating, breathing shallow and I found out later that he was seriously having a terror response to my presence, and he told me it wasn't me, it was all men. But the fact he was a man himself made it so strange.
That is indeed odd. Almost paradoxical. Though I guess the individual could have prior experiences to make him feel that way towards men (aside from himself). If women could develop that fear, makes sense men could too..?
Nail files. I don't actually have a story, but the mere thought of a nail file is enough to make me feel grossed out and want to leave a place. I can suppress it so I don't /have/ to leave the room when someone whips one out to file their nails, but god do I want to. I honestly can't even look at nail files. I don't even know why, they just feel really gross to me? There's a subtle sense of wrongness to the surface that gives me the heebie jeebies
Weirdly, no? Like sandpaper itself is fine because it's so much rougher than a nail file, but I get the same type of gross feeling by someone dragging their nails on a chalkboard, or if the cutlery scrapes across the plate. The difference is that the feeling only lasts as long as the sound, but the nail file is forever
I'm not talking about the weirdest phobia you KNOW.. as any google search can tell you of those. And their names are.. interesting. I mean your phobias or the most unusual you've come across!
I'll start. Twitter follows may already know this. ... Caterpillars. Not in general but in the wretched season when they are hatching, the prairies have a huge.. HUGE problem with 'em. Specifically 'tent caterpillars' that appear in massive numbers. I may not like mosquitoes or many insects in large quantities but they don't make me want to stay in my apartment. They don't cause anxiety for the rest of the day. These do. I only categorize phobias as things that are somewhat illogical and cause disproportionate disruption in activities when encountered, so this may be one of the few things that qualifies.
I won't link any images because frankly if they're slightly traumatizing for me to look at, I ain't putting anyone else through it. If you're feeling brave though, look up an infestation of them.
