Icy Moons Probe by Abiogenisis Icy Moons Probe by Abiogenisis
Exploring submarine caverns kept liquid by the heat of volcanic plumes, the AUV Thalassa samples the life-forms coating mineral rich geothermal vents of Europa. It maintains a topside link to the nuclear meltprobe that delivered it to this subsurface ocean.

I wonder how hard it will be to prevent contamination with earth bacteria- certainly wouldn't want to induce a mass extinction or something

I think it would be very hard, which is why NASA has a planetary protection officer. Probably have to bath the probe in radiation

It might well do with the future prospect of less expensive space flights. If we are lucky prices will go down enough (I think a 100 fold decrease is expected in the coming decades) to make sending a nuclear powered probe all the way to Europa economically feasible. That's not considering the engineering difficulties though.

engineering would be a bitch.
im thinking
comunication through kms of ice to earth
temperature resistance
power supply

would be the biggest issues

Think I sent that to the wrong person! I agree, Iraq War cost lives, stability AND several possible amazing science missions.
