Finally, my first art book is on the way! I’m really lucky to have a great editor and publisher (Spiridon Giannakis and Editions Caurette) put together a lovely tome of all of my favorite pieces from the past decade. Fairytales have had a lifelong impression on me. Some of my earliest memories are when I spent my summers up in Maine with my grandparents reading their old illustrated versions of fairytale classics, and my all-time favorite was "Beauty and the Beast". The book my grandma had was a pretty weathered edition that had amazing watercolor illustrations, and the "Beast" looked like a wild boar wearing a fancy frock coat. I've always loved that story, and as I grew up I still collected every illustrated version of the tale I could get my hands on. Jan Brett, Hilary Knight, Kinuko Y. Craft, Mercer Meyer, Angela Barrett, and many more have all made really gorgeous versions of the book. At its core, it's a story about two unlikely creatures finding a mutual respect for each other, which eventually turns into true love. It's a simple tale told in so many ways in many cultures throughout time that resonates with so many people 🥀
