Week four of the 2018 Month of Fear challenge: “Blindness”

“What it was, whether man or beast, I could not tell…”

Lucy, barely conscious in her sleepwalking trance, has fallen into the clutches of Dracula, who disappears just as the pair are discovered by Mina. From across the churchyard, all Mina can see is a hulking shadow bending over Lucy… until she comes closer…

“I could see the seat and the white figure, for I was now close enough to distinguish it even through the spells of shadow. There was undoubtedly something, long and black, bending over the half-reclining white figure. I called in fright, “Lucy! Lucy!” and something raised a head, and from where I was I could see a white face and red, gleaming eyes.”

If I saw this and I was from this time period, I would probably do something along the lines of: 1. brandish two long kitchen knives dipped in holy water, 2. smile while towards them, 3. say a verse like “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.” Amen., 4. then depending on the outcome either die a gruesome death smiling peacefully because I bought enough time for someone to escape or kneel before my fallen enemy giving them a short prayer of forgiveness and rest or the third route in which I kill the vampire and then begin to drink their blood.

How do you do it? You captured the moment so perfectly, I knew this was Lucy and Dracula based on the thumbnail alone.
You're like Gustave Dore, illustrating "Dante's Inferno." You peer into the dark recesses of humanity's psychology and pluck from it something, not deranged and perverse, but beautiful and captivating.
Sorry. I laid it on a bit thick. But I'm just being honest.
You really ought to be famous for this kind of thing.

I totally get the prompt "blindness" because as they say "love is blind". Lucy was put into a trance to fall in love with Dracula and ultimately got her in his clutches. Very good art work,I loved how you portrayed Dracula as a shadow like monster who's luring Lucy into a trap of love! The moon light and fog is perfect, great job! It's a teeny bit inappropriate due to...well you know, but still good! Keep up the good work!
