Reminds me of a scene in an unfinished novel of mine where a woman goes to a carnival and see her dead daughter in the funhouse mirrors. She then goes to the fortune teller who looks like she's from California and talks like she's from Tennessee who reads what are very obviously NOT tarot cards (they turn up blank and then form the image magically) and one of the cards is "Der Erlkonig" (The Erlking) who is the main villain of the story.
