The effect of heat dispersion is too Imo it should start at the first movement of the barrel.. But it will look as it is late since it has a sequence of opening side panels. The barrel it self would also have alot more impacet if the impact animation would consist only of one frame.. then one frame hold and only them a move back..
yep.. it is hard to animate high impact effect with such a low frame rate.. Even at a higher rates most of the time that animators give to recoil is 1 frame. The after effect or the follow-up animation is the key in showing the strength of the recoil.. IF the gun is heavy the barrel will stay longer in contracted position then in a low calibre guns such as pistols for example..
I actually realized before posting that it would probably look better if the barrel movement was faster and the cooling part slower, but by that time it already was a shit ton of layers in photoshop which are really hard to manage across frames : )
Heh. I know what you mean. It is always a good thing to make at least simple animatic before final work. That way when you create a animation you don't need to think about how and what will move the way you desire.. It always helped me, be it 2D or 3D animation. If you ever plan to make that gun a 3D version you could give its model to me.. I could try to make it shoot the way I imagined it.. And you could make your own version and compare it for the funs sake
