I had almost forgotten to thank you, Mr Papakhian, for introducing me to the work of Mr Edwin Austin Abbey; his work is a pleasure to look through, even if he has not ascended into the ranks of my favourite artists as yet.:) (Smile)

(I admit to being more of a Caton-Woodville or Howard Pyle aficionado, although I must admit that when it comes to Art I know what I like, although I might not be able to quote you the artist's name off the top of my head - especially if it's Old Masters rather than Modern Artists we're talking about).

King Joffrey the Jerk: "Oh yes he did!"

Please forgive my infantile delusions of humour; I may have a problem.Sweating a little...

When it comes to depicting the Seven Kingdoms, so far as I'm concerned you're the VERY Best Master Papakhian!

And there he goes, one of the most honorable men of the 7 Kingdoms.

Even honorable men die.

Sadly, they are often the first to be killed.

Good times!! Love the use of dark they're emerging from/light outdoors to emphasize importance of various figures...and the kid /guard is a great detail :)

I love the highlights! Really brings out the chars and shows a lot of emotion. though the one thing I would maybe add or think of next time is that, with all the light, there would maybe some very dark shadow area. I still like this though!!!

Gosh, the lighting in this is like...perfect. I love how you showed the scene, it had great impact.

Wow, this is really impressive!! It makes me feel as devastated as I was when I read the book :cries: Poor Ned, he deserved to die in battle, not like this...

this is a great piece of work but it totally spoiled the book for me, I'm 3/4 through Game of Thrones :|

Sorry about that, but you realize that the book has been out for fourteen years? I guess warning you about some of the other ASOIAF pics come a little too late.

I think the head like it is looks great. It's strange there's not much blood from the body, not even any specks on the platform anywhere, but for all I know, it's all flowing backward since it's sloped. Wonderful style and illustration. :D
AbePapakhian Featured By Owner Mar 17, 2011  Professional Traditional Artist
Not adding the blood was intentional. I'm still not certain I want to see all that blood dripping down not to mention splatter effects. It would make the painting way too graphic. I did however do some photoshop versions so I can compare. One day, maybe...

Nice. But where is Ser Ilyn Payne?
AbePapakhian Featured By Owner May 31, 2010  Professional Traditional Artist
far right. Holding a certain sword.

One of the most shocking, memorable event of the series, and you did well with much detail. Interesting how the is led through the piece. You see the head, then the sun light leads you to the left to the other details. Awesome job.

Thanks. I was debating whether I should show a more bloody head, but I opted for the more tame version.
Shanxara Featured By Owner Apr 7, 2010
Is this in homage to some specific picture by Abbey or just done in a similar style? Because I know it seems familiar, but I couldn't find anything...

Very well done, too. Such a sad and creepy scene, and you captured it perfectly.

Nothing specific. I've been really impressed with the sense of drama he brought to his Shakespearean works. There seemed to be a staged theatrical quality to them that I admired. Not to mention his use of colour. That was what I was aiming for here. It was a pretty challenging piece to do, although looking it over, I could see where it could be improved.
