Follow Me To The Waterfall by Aartcritique Follow Me To The Waterfall by Aartcritique
I had this idea in my head all week after watching The Hidden World, and finally decided to draw it.

My gosh, this film was a cinematic masterpiece. I could go on for hours about the graphics and soundtrack (here's the soundtrack playlist - I'll let it speak for itself: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rbijah…), so instead of typing a wall of text, I'll just encourage you to go see it for yourself.
As for my thoughts on the film itself, well, it was a solidly good film. There were certainly things that could have been done better, but all in all, I'd definitely like to see it again. It was a fun movie. Without going into spoilers, the biggest problem I had with it was that it was too short. The film tries to stay below two hours for a younger, more impatient audience, but it really would have benefited from another thirty minutes or so. Things happened a little too quickly for my taste. When the climax ended, I really thought something else was going to happen to make things pick up again, but it didn't. I was mildly disappointed by the lack of said thing, but it wasn't enough to spoil my overall feelings for the film. Another thing I didn't like about it was that they left a few characters' arcs incompleted, and there's the issue with the light fury's design (yes, I know she's from a different sub-species), but those are really my only gripes with this movie. My star rating immediately after seeing it was a 7/10 (someone I was with at the time had asked). All in all, I'd place it between the other two films; above or on par with the first and beneath the second (which I still consider one of the greatest animated films of all time). It was a solid ending to my favorite film trilogy, and I highly recommend watching it.

In case anyone was wondering, I also did a redesign of the Light Fury and a Night Light. These redesigns can be found here:

Hi Aart!  I just wanted to let you know that I've featured your work in a post called How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World Artwork by Various Artists on my dragon artwork blog (with proper attribution and links back, of course).  I love this piece, and your critique echoes a lot of my thoughts after seeing the film.  You can find me at Writing Dragons, and this feature here.  Keep up the great work!

OH MY! This is Beautiful!! I love this so munch, You did such a Great job on the shadowing and shading on it. This looks like it could be official Artwork from the movie, it's that Good! Like I can picture this painting at comic con or someplace where they hang out Concept Art from the movies. I will say I'm not a huge fan of the whole plot with this last movie. But this painting is Gorgeous! Keep up the Great work!

I really love the shading and detailing here! I agree on that it wasn't as impactful as the second one, but still good despite it. I'm really glad to have seen it.

This is one gorgeous piece. I love the textures here.
Oh, and I haven't seen the movie yet, but hearing so many people saying it's visually stunning is interesting. It's only been out for three days here, so I'll see if I can watch it soon.

Thanks! It was a very experimental piece, and taught me a lot in the way of rendering textures (mostly with the help of the filter gallery).
Feel free to message me after you see it. I'd love to know what you thought, and maybe we can ramble about the graphics together for an hour or two.

You're welcome! And I'm actually going to see it later today with a friend, so we'll be able to discuss it after that, if you'll be available.
