"but you have to love Vefantur's coppery red locks."

Coppery red locks  You need to make this version. For now it is really interesting, great artwork
Is the description from The Book of Lost Tales? Mandos is called Námo in the Silmarillion and brothers called Fëanturi - Masters of Spirits. I haven't heard of the light drop, too, very nice idea. It gives more place for art - before that I was sure there is nothing in Mandos, no bodies, no objects. But when the light exists, something more can be there, too.

Yes, the locks in the actual painting are red, but for some reason my scanner refused to bring out the color in this one. And you're quite correct-- I should go by the Silmarillion details, since they were written later, but the Lost Tales have lots of neat little details like the dew drop-- and more about Namo in general, a really great read =) Glad you like it, and thanks for the fav! I need to do another painting of Mandos, I think, just haven't gotten around to it yet :)

Hey, no I don't say you should go by Silmarillion description, I just don't know BoLT so I asked you. I really like these ideas.
Pity the red locks are no visible :(

Oh, no- I didn't think you were. I just know that when it comes to Tolkien's stuff, you're always supposed to go by the later material. Oh, and I meant to say-- nice gallery, by the way :) I like the paint textures. And my German teacher was Polish. I was thinking of learning it but went with Russian instead :|

Oh and even if something was corrected later you are always free to illustrate the older version, why not? It's art and imagination :D

Thank you :) The paint textures are dry oil brush strokes from Painter IX, if you think about my latest Maedhros versions. This soft mimics traditional media well. (Though I have never tried to paint with traditional oils.)

There is not so much of Mandos in the Silmarillion, so if anything in BoLT was not corrected in Silm or HoME, then it is still canon. I need to peer to the information about Mandos, for I was writing an essay on Valar's look for my friend's web page and it would be good to add more to the Fëanturi's description.

Russian - I've been learning it for 3 years, but never really learned. The orthography killed me. I've been learning German the same time, I was better on it, but I wouldn't be able to talk in German now. Pity, I can speak only Polish and English, I should learn something more.

Ah yes-- traditional oils kill me. I use acrylics, but strangely enough, it seems I can only handle digital acrylics when it comes to Painter, too, but I only have Essentials. The bad thing about Tolkien--or maybe it's better for the imagination-- is he never really describes his characters. I suppose for the Valar it's moreso because they're gods. As for languages, hehe, I'm only fluent in English :( But I think I could at least survive in Russia or Germany!

Thanks again, and keep up the good work ^^

very good. I like very much as you make the faces of Irmo and Mandos, and all the concept of your work is very well done and thought.
