www.deviantart.com/a0040pc/art…The day continued on and Lacey continued to be very popular with the patrons of the café. Many of them wanted to have a picture with her and although she did have some misgivings she went through with them nonetheless. Although some of them were quite tall, most were relatively short and none had a hope of measuring up to her.
Paruka did watch on close by as the pictures were taken. Not just so she could act as a translator for the foreign giantess, but also to ensure that none of the patrons did anything that they shouldn't. There was even one who tried to reach up and grab a quick squeeze of Lacey's buttocks, only for the shortest maid in the café to slap his hand before he had a chance.
This was something that was greatly appreciated by the towering gaijin who just continued on with her duties for the day. One thing that she was able to do which once again brought her a lot of eyes onto her was when she was cleaning a few things that were too high for regular folks.
This included dusting the top of the doorframes within the café since she was tall enough to actually see all the dust. Because it was often missed by the other maids, this task was neglected. But she was able to achieve this task without anything that was boosting her height. Much to the delight of those watching on.
The only one who wasn't happy to see this was Suika who for the time being could only sulk in the background. There were still some patrons who wanted to have their picture taken with her. Unfortunately, she knew that it was Lacey who was at the centre of attention for the majority of patrons.
Temptation was running through her body as she wanted more than ever to rain on her temporary colleague's day. She had the means to do so but was having to use what little willpower she had to prevent herself from doing so. If she were, it was likely that it would cause more trouble than it was worth.
Instead, all she could really do was try and carry on with her own duties and she eventually found herself sitting down in one of the back areas of the establishment. This was used as a staff room so that employees could have their break outside of the view of the patrons.
Suika did find herself within this room as she needed to take a moment to relax and compose herself. The food that she had brought for her lunch was relatively small and it seemed as though it wouldn't be suitable for a woman of her stature. Yet, when she placed the food in her mouth, it seemed as though it would expand into a proper mouthful.
There was more annoyed sulking from her as well as she thought that she could finally vent without being heard by the other employees. Lacey's popularity was still like a knife into Suika's heart. Everything that she had cultivated since coming to this establishment might go up in smoke.
As far as Ms. Toriyama was concerned about the matter, all she could see was the upsides. The money that was brought in more than any single day takings and there was still a good chunk of operations hours to go. If it was up to her, she would have Lacey remain as a permanent maid. Even though the foreign giantess had her own ongoing basketball career back in the States.
Suika continued her sulking until the door to the staff room suddenly opened. It wasn't too often that there would be more than one person inside at a time thanks to their busy schedules. It was possible that it was merely someone entering so that they could tell her that she was needed. There were only a few minutes of her break left so this was a distinct possibility.
Instead, she saw the tallest woman in the building, if not the world have to duck down in order to get through the door and step inside. In her hands, was a tray that had a warm meal in a very large portion. Much to Suika's dismay, it seemed as though Lacey was here to have her own break.
"Hello!" said Lacey as she had been using this word several times while she had been working at the café. It was as she greeted patrons as it was one of the few Japanese words she actually knew.
"What do you want?" replied Suika in a tone that clearly showed that she was hiding her anger. Unfortunately, her question was only met with a confused expression from the extremely tall woman. "Oh right, you can't speak Japanese can you?" She sighed at this. "Typical gaijin."
Once again, her insults were lost on Lacey who simply smiled and nodded her head. She could still tell that Suika didn't seem to be all that pleased but she still wanted to be friendly. Her experience so as a maid had its ups and downs, but she still had an overall positive outlook.
"Nice weather we're having," said Lacey in her heavily accented tone. This again was one of the few phases she actually knew.
"Why do you care about the weather?" replied Suika. There was some confusion in her voice as she thought Lacey was genuinely asking such a question but then she realised that it was one of the few Japanese phrases that she knew. "Oh right you can't speak Japanese can you?"
This was followed by a blank expression on Lacey's face as she couldn't understand what Suika had just said to her. This was only furthering the annoyance for her and she knew what she was going to have to do.
Why don't I just start speaking English for you? asked Suika as she saw a look of surprise on the face of the super tall woman.
You can speak English? replied Lacey. As far as she had none, only Paruka was the only maid in the café who could speak English.
Yes and to answer your question about the weather. I'm sure that it's going to rain later. She had a slightly mocking tone in her voice as she spoke.
There was something that Lacey did notice about Suika's voice that did make her feel a little confused. Whenever Paruka spoke English to her, her accent did make it a little difficult to understand. But when Suika was speaking, her accent was completely different, almost as if she was from another part of the world.
Oh I see, but still I am having a wonderful time working in this café, stated Lacey as she still wanted to have a friendly conversation with her temporary colleague. Everyone here is so nice, although I admit the customers can be a little eager.
Tell me about it, but you seem to be little miss popular. There was a slightly annoyed tone to her voice as she was still doing her best to hide her irritation. I've never seen so many customers flock around a single maid.
I kind of wish that they didn't. But still, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. She couldn't help but sigh. When you're growing as fast as me, it just brings a of attention my way. For better or worse. Her face turned red for a moment as she couldn't help but think of a series of events in her life. You wouldn't believe how many people have asked about my shoe size.
Suika did fall silent for a moment as she began to think as well. During her time at Le Café des Maids Imposantes she was receiving marriage proposals on an almost daily basis. Even a couple of times, they had come from a woman which she had been very tempted to accept.
"Suika," said a voice from just behind the door to the staff room. It seemed to be that of Ms. Toriyama who seemed to be annoyed in her own right. "You've overdone your break, get back to work now!"
This only led to another frustrated expression on her face as she knew that her time of relaxation was over for now. Under normal circumstances, she knew that her popularity was able to get her some leeway. But with Lacey working in the café for the day, her popularity had plummeted.
I've gotta go, but just remember that you're only here for a day, said Suika as she stood up from the table. Whatever problems you have today, they end after you walk out of here at the end of the day. I have to deal with it everyday.
With that Suika walked out of the staff room and made her way back onto the café floor. This left Lacey sitting there and she couldn't help but feel confused about what had just been said to her. It was clear that Suika didn't really hold Lacey in that high regard but there was still a lot that continued to baffle her.
There was something else that had only furthered this conundrum in her mind as she still thought about Suika's accent. It definitely didn't sound Japanese or even Asian at all. It was one that she couldn't put her finger on exactly where it was. All she knew was that she would have to keep an eye on her colleague. There was something about her that sent a shiver down Lacey's long spine.
