Guardians Of The Northern City: Chapter 73

Serena continued on with her trek through the mysterious laboratory. She was doing her best to try and keep an eye out for any traps. The water that surrounded her did make traversing slightly more difficult and as it made it slightly harder to see any triggers. It was a little like she was inside of an escape room of some kind. Although her goal wasn't to escape but to find the person responsible for all of this.

It was only after a few more steps when she suddenly felt something underneath her foot. She could feel something below slightly move down and this made her heart skip a beat as she had some idea over what was about to happen. It was one of the triggers that she had tried so hard to avoid.

The next thing that Serena knew, she was suddenly surrounded by a bright light. It was too bright for her to see properly and almost instinctively she ducked down to the ground as she feared what would happen next. This came in the form of another machine gun that suddenly fired directly where she had been standing.

Thankfully, since she had ducked beforehand the bullets harmlessly fired right above where she was. She remained on the ground and kept as low as she could without putting her nose and mouth into the water. It was only when the machine gun had stopped firing for several seconds when she finally got back up to her feet.

Just above her, the lights were still extremely bright but it was beginning easier to see as her eyes adjusted. Even so, she was able to destroy them with a simple wave of her fists and the projection of an energy that she had absorbed some time ago. Immediately the lights went out and she found herself in darkness. Her eyes hadn't been able to adjust to this and so for the moment she was blind.

All of this only added to her annoyance and need to find the person responsible and then take them down as quickly as possible. In her annoyed state, rather than simply going around like she had been doing. She wanted to take the direct root towards the person who was causing all of these problems.

Instead, she began to use another energy source that she had absorbed sometime ago. This made her body heat up considerably and at her feet, the water began to bubble and turn into steam. Serena then stepped towards one of the wall and placed her body against it. This caused the wall to heat up considerably but rather than it burning, it seemed to melt. Such a thing was exactly what she had planned.

The wall began to break down and thanks to the technique that she was using, the hole that she was creating was in the size and shape of her body. This allowed her to go through all of this with little effort and was definitely the best thing that she could do as far as she was concerned.

When the hole was finally created, she was able to go through the wall and into the next room. Rather than exploring this room or anything of the sort, she just walked to the next wall and did the entire process again. She remembered where she had seen the person and knew that they were just in the next room beyond.

In her annoyance, Serena continued but she found herself with a problem. The energy that she had used to burn through the wall was ebbing away which meant that she couldn't use it for too much longer. She did try to burn her way through this wall, but the energy faded away before she could complete this and this left her in a predicament that only added to her frustration.

If Elizabeth was still conscious, she would have been able to burst her way through this wall as if it was simply made out of cardboard. But when it came if Louise could there was one simple problem. The French giantess was too big to even consider fitting inside so any kind of thought about what she would do would be foolish.

Instead, Serena looked for any kind of way into the room just beyond. There seemed to be no immediate way to get inside which wasn't too surprising considering the circumstances that she was in. If it was some kind of panic room then it was likely that the entrance would be hidden.

Nothing seemed to be able to stop her in this endeavour and she still had some of her x-ray energy and she used it to try and find this entrance. Mostly she was just seeing walls that seemed to have no way of seeing a way to get into the room beyond. Worse still, she was using too much of this energy and it was beginning to fade away. But as it was finally disappearing, she did notice something on the nearby wall.

It seemed to be slightly more hollowed out and there had been a box that she had been just make out before her x-ray vision faded completely. Nothing seemed to be stopping her and as she approached the spot on the wall, she was able to remove a panel and saw a key code device that was just in front of her. Now she had to figure out the combination to get inside or maybe find a way to simply hack it.

Elsewhere, Louise was placing the last person from the burning building onto the ground near where a couple of paramedics were waiting. There was still some amazement from the people around her as they had noticed that she was much larger than she had been the last time that she had been seen by them.

However, for the moment she didn't really take any notice of this as she was still concerned about the people that she had saved and her now badly burned hand. The pain was continuing to shoot right through her and the tears that were weeping. Her hand was badly burned and it would likely be that it would never properly heal.

Even when some of the paramedics took a look at her hand, they could see the charred skin. Some of it had burned so much that the flesh underneath could be seen. The agony of it was too great that even the most minor of touches caused her great pain. Even just coming into contact with the air gave her no more comfort.

Already, most of the people were beginning to disperse from the scene as they were being ushered away by emergency services as it was still too dangerous to be around. Many were overtaken by being in the presence of Louise. Those who had never seen her before did want to have pictures taken with her. They knew how she had been willing to have her picture taken with fans but of course, now wasn't the best time for this.

At that moment in time she was doing her best to try and subside the pain that she was experiencing. But there was something that was happening that she hadn't noticed yet. However, this was something that everyone else had noticed which some were shocked by this.

The hand of Louise was beginning to glow with the same bright right aura that had covered her body during the battle with the giant mech. By the time she looked at her hand, she could see what was happening. For the moment, she was completely speechless as she watched the events play out in front of her.

A part of her had expected the hand in front of her to begin to heal, but this didn't happen. Instead, much her horror the damaged hand was beginning to disintegrate right in front of her. It was breaking down at an atomic level that and such a thing was noticed by everyone else who was there.

The giantess was in absolute shock and not a single word could escape her mouth. Instead, she watched as her damaged hand seemed to disappear into dust right in front of her. The glow from her body hadn't faded away and if anything had become even brighter as the next part of the process took place.

Louise could see what at first seemed to be a fleshy sphere growing out of the stump that was her wrist. It was taking a few moments for her mind to process what was happening. Nothing that she had ever seen could compare to what she was witnessing and she was in a complete state of shock.

It took a few moments for the sphere to stop growing from her wrist and she looked at it with amazement. The glow around it was continuing and she could see that the process wasn't over just yet. Something began to pocket through the sphere and at first they looked like lumps but as time went by, they grew. They became longer and she noticed that there were five of them. These were in the exact location where her fingers and thumb had once been. It was more than she could have imagined.

The sphere was also beginning to deflate as it became flatter and more details was beginning to come to view. Louise could see some lines in the flat surface beginning to develop and the now long pieces of flesh pushing out of it too was beginning to become more like her fingers. The flat piece of flesh was taking shape into the palm of her hand and if anything she was completely bewildered.

Eventually the glow around her hand subsided and she could see that her hand had completely regrown. Even when she moved her fingers, she could feel that they moved freely. It didn't even move in any abnormal ways and she could still feel the bone underneath her flesh.

What had just taken place should have been impossible and yet she and many other people had witnessed every single moment of it. Her badly damaged hand had been discarded by her body and a new hand had taken its place. Nothing like this had ever been seen happen to a person and no one could explain what had happened. Instead all of them were in stunned silence but none more so than Louise herself.

Not only had her size increased dramatically just a short time ago but now her body had done something else that many would consider to be impossible. Nothing that she had learned during her time on Earth could have prepared her for what she had seen. It was something that she simply failed to explain and once again in a relatively short amount of time, her life would never be the same again.
