With her now injured former apprentice in her arms, Elizabeth was doing her best to decide what to do next. She knew how important it was to find the person responsible for the Canada Day attack and bring them to justice. But she also knew that Serena required urgent medical attention.
The towering woman was torn between duty and common sense. Even if she would be hailed a hero for finding the person responsible for so much destruction. But she couldn't allow her former apprentice to die because of this. It was the decision that many would have made in her position and she continued to hold her apprentice with care.
"Come on Serena, we're getting out of here," said Elizabeth as she turned in order to make her way out through the exit.
"O-Ok," replied Serena who was doing her best to hide the pain that she was in. She knew that being shot in the shoulder might not be fatal, but it would be true that her life could be in danger if she didn't receive medical aid.
Before Elizabeth could make her way out of the lab, she heard something that was just behind her. It was feint at first but became louder and it was something that she had heard many times before. It sounded like running water and before she knew it, the ground beneath her feet was beginning to be covered by water.
At first, she thought that this might be some kind of chemical that was going to harm her. However, one thing that she noticed was that there were no fumes to this liquid and it looked clear. There was no distinct smell to it either and for what she could tell, it simply was ordinary water.
Elizabeth soon realised the danger she was in as the water became electrified as if someone had just placed a live wire inside of it. Thousands of volts of electricity was running through her body and this was something that bypassed her invulnerability. Although she was far more tolerant to electricity than the average person, she was still just as susceptible to it much like them.
For what was likely the first time since she had gained her abilities that she screamed out in absolute agony. But after several seconds, the electricity running through the water subsided and smoke was beginning to rise from the still standing body of the towering Guardian. But this only lasted for a few moments as she fell backwards and a splash could be heard as she impacted the water.
Elizabeth was still alive but the shock of what had happened had definitely injured her. She was more or less in a state on unconsciousness as her eyes closed and her breathing slowed down significantly. A regular person would have been killed by the electric show but the fact that she was alive was nothing short of a miracle.
For Serena on the other hand, she was more or less spared such a fate. Her own abilities allowed her to absorb the electricity. This caused her no damage whatsoever and she was thankful that her former mentor had fallen backwards rather than forwards. If she had been pinned down by her and wouldn't have been able to move them.
Unfortunately, she was now by herself and she slowly got up to her feet. She could still feel intense pain in her arm the bullet wound had unfortunately not gone away. Grunts escaped her lips as she could feel the pain in her shoulder. She could barely move her left arm and thus she was severe disadvantage.
These traps weren't be triggered by themselves. It was clear to Serena that someone was watching and activating them where necessary. But there was something else that she could feel. This was a surge of electricity in her body, she even looked at her right hand and could see jolts between her fingers.
The amount of electricity that she had absorbed was great and she was determined to use it in a way that would be able to help her in this situation. Unfortunately one problem that she was facing was the fact that Elizabeth was simply too heavy for her to move. Her height and sheer muscle density made her a very heavy woman. Too heavy for Serena to even have a hope of moving.
As much as she hated to admit it to herself, she had no choice but to leave her former mentor where she was. She hoped that she would be able to return to her after she had found the one responsible for the attack and taking down Elizabeth. A feat that she and many others had thought to be impossible.
Even if the odds were still against her, but she had to put her training into action. Now that her former was out of action for the time being. Serena did her best to remain calm and collective as she knew that panicking would only make her task that much more difficult. As much as she hated to admit it, she was on her own.
Elsewhere, Louise was still trying to figure out what she was going to do next in her current predicament. She was glad that her video call with her family was over but she did wonder if her mother had bought her half truths. Having to lie to them was something that she wasn't something that she was proud of.
She began to get back to her full height and she felt her head slam against the ceiling. A curse word was muttered by her in her native language. She began to look around in the hopes that she could see something that could help her. But all she could see were objects that were scaled up in size but still looked tiny in comparison to her.
Louise thought that if she was able to get some fresh air that she would be able to think straight. This made her glance towards the door that led to the outside of her abode. With some care, she began to make her way towards it and even she could hear the loud thuds that she made when she made a single step. Only another reminder of how much larger she had become.
Thankfully as far as she was concerned, it was a relatively short walk to the door but that was when she noticed another problem. The door itself was much smaller than it had been before. She had to go down to one knee in order to be able to fit through it without striking the top of it.
When Louise tried to make her way through the door though, there was another problem that she soon found herself going up against. Not only was she too tall to go through the door normally, she was now too wide. Her shoulders struck both sides of the door and she this only added to her annoyance.
Carefully, she began to move her body in the hopes of being able to fit through the door properly. It was still amazing to think that a door that was a hundred feet in height was too small for a giantess like her. It only reflected on the situation that she had found herself in and how it was spiralling out of her control.
It took another few moments for Louise to be able to get her body through the door and finally be outside. By now, she could see that it was still sunny outside and the warmth was reassuring to her. Although for now, she was still down on her hands and knees after making her way through the door.
Slowly but surely, she began to stand up to her full height and this time, she didn't have to worry about the presence of a ceiling above her. Instead, there was nothing but open sky and she continued to stand until she truly was at her full height. She couldn't help but stretch her body and take in a deep breath.
The fresh air was exactly what she had needed and seeing the city of New Cardiff in front of her and just off to the other side of the warehouse, she could see forest for as far as the eye could see. If there was anything that she appreciated more in this country was the sheer beauty of it.
A part of her just wanted to stand there and look over the horizon while trying to put what happened into the back of her mind. Her extra height meant that she could see further than she had done before. Something that she did appreciate somewhat as she could see a few more lakes that seemed closer than they actually were.
As her mood began to slightly improve, she didn't notice the red aura that was beginning to surround her body. It was quite faint and in the light of day, it was harder to see. But it definitely was there and seemed to be the mysterious energy that Louise's body could generate doing its best to radiate from her.
Before, when she had battled the giant mech, the aura around her had more been like a fire that was burning within her. This one seemed more like a gentle glow that was more like the woman that she actually was. Simply being outside and in the presence of such natural beauty was enough to make her feel better. It was as if everything was going to be fine at the end of the day.
The giantess's attention was quickly taken away, when she glanced over to the city and noticed what looked to be a plume of smoke coming from within. Even she knew that this was out of place and she instantly became concerned. Such smoke often meant that there was a fire and in the city, it was normally out of control.
Part of her wanted to stay by her abode and simply allow the fire service to simply deal with it by themselves. But she wouldn't be able to forgive herself if anyone got hurt. As far as she was concerned, she was a Guardian and that meant that it was her duty to protect the people of the city.
Despite everything that had happened to her and her own fears, she felt as though she still needed to help the citizens as best as she could. Even if it meant that they would quickly find out about the fact that she had grown even bigger. That fear for now was going to have to be placed to one side.
