Description

The next few days were nothing short of a whirlwind for both Guardians. Although for the time being, they were allowed to remain free from imprisonment. There was still a lot that were taking place at that moment in time. Louise’s former abode was being combed over by government forces as well as the spot where she had disappeared into the ground.

As much as she wanted to go out and perform her duties, Elizabeth was forced to stay within her apartment with an electronic tag around her ankle. It would be easy for her to simply break it off and simply go on her way. But that would cause even more trouble than she would care to deal with.

Serena didn’t have such a tag on her ankle, simply because there was no tag in the world small enough to fit her ankle. Ever since that infamous night, she hadn’t grown at all, instead still remaining at a tiny size. Also with her own abilities, it was possible that having such a device around her ankle would actually cause problems rather than doing anything that could monitor her.

Unfortunately, her choice of clothing was very limited. At first, she had tried to wear doll clothing but it had been extremely uncomfortable for her. They were never designed for a person to wear and so their lack of comfort that most clothing would have. Because of this, she was forced to wear small pieces of cloth that were being used as makeshift clothing. It did make her feel as if she was pretending to be from Ancient Greece or Rome.

Also navigating the world at such a tiny size was incredibly difficult. However, living for a short time in Louise’s home made her used to everything being the wrong scale to her. Even so, at least then if she stepped outside, everything would have been normal. This time, she didn’t have such a luxury.

There was something that Serena was beginning to discover though. Thanks to her tiny size, her powers did work a little differently than they did before. Already, she was experimenting a little with like absorbing electricity from some devices that were around. One thing that was to be expected was that her tiny body could only contain a fraction of a percent that her regular size self had been able to.

Even so, she discovered that by discharging this energy through her hands a particular moment in time allowed her to float in the air for a short amount of time. Unfortunately, flight in the traditional sense was still beyond her grasp. No matter how much she imagined herself flying through the air like a comic book superhero.

Elizabeth simply found herself sitting in her chair and seemingly being quite frustrated. There was nothing more that she wanted to do than to go out there and find out what happened to her apprentice. There was also the mystery of who had been trying to kill Louise before the events of that fateful night had taken place.

Simply sitting in her apartment and doing nothing was beyond frustrating to her as she felt completely powerless. The tag on her ankle only made things even worse for her and there was a great temptation to simply rip it off. But there was nothing that she could do but simply stand around.

“This is bullshit!” stated Elizabeth as she continued to be frustrated.

At the time, she had an apple in her hand and she didn’t realise at first that she had crushed. For her it had only been a small amount of pressure.

“Please calm down,” replied Serena who was on the table that wasn’t too far away from where the towering woman was sitting.

“How can I stay calm?” She got up to her feet and started pacing around the room as she was clearly still frustrated. “We still don’t know exactly what happened to Louise and even if she is still alive! We also don’t know who was behind that giant robot and we aren’t going to solve anything if we are stuck here!” She looked down at the tag that was on her ankle and was still considering smashing it into tiny pieces. “I could simply leave this place and they’re not going to stop me!”

“But that wouldn’t be wise would it.”

“Maybe not.” In a way she felt as though she was the apprentice and Serena was the mentor. The size difference between the two was very similar to herself and Louise had been. “But what are we supposed to do?”

“I’ve been thinking about that. You can’t leave this place at all can you? Not without alerting someone that you’ve gone.”

“Yeah.” The fact was still clearly a source of frustration for her and she didn’t really want to be reminded of it.

“But the thing is, they can’t monitor me. I can still go anywhere I want. There’s nothing keeping me here.”

“Except the fact that you’re no bigger than my thumb. It’s too dangerous for you to be going outside by yourself. It only takes one careless person to accidentally step on you and believe me. There are a lot of careless people out there.”

“But I don’t have to walk the streets, don’t worry.” She smiled but her lack of size made it hard to make out. Right besides her, was a radio that was plugged into the wall, but it wasn’t switched on.

Serena touched it and immediately, she absorbed herself into it. This did catch Elizabeth by surprise for the moment and she began to look around for her former apprentice. Only for her to reappear right by the TV that was across the room. “As you can see, travelling around isn’t too much of an issue for me.”

“I forgot that you were able to do that.” She couldn’t help but be a little frustrated. With everything that had taken place, forgetting such vital information was actually quite understandable.

“So I can move by electrical works throughout the city, maybe even the country. Without having to step foot onto any sidewalk or road.”

“Really?” This did make her think for a moment but she did notice that Serena’s clothing hadn’t travelled with her. It was still on the table where she had been a few moments ago. “Although being in your birthday suit might be a problem.”

“Oh right.” She did her best to try and cover herself up with her hands as it was still embarrassing being naked in front of her former mentor. “That is a pretty big problem for me.”

“Amongst other things. But if you’re able to do this, then do it. All I can do is wait here and maybe try to figure things out myself. Although I doubt that I’m going to make that much progress.”

“Ok.” She nodded as she said this and she did want to start the investigation as soon as possible. Even if she didn’t truly know where to start. “I promise you that I’ll do everything I can.”

“I know you will Serena and thank you.”

The two women gave each other another nod before Serena placed her hand on one the TV that she was standing in front of. There was a slight flash and soon enough, the tiny woman completely disappeared. It was still difficult for Elizabeth to wrap her head around exactly what happened. Her former apprentice actually being able to turn herself into energy and slip away using the network was a lot to comprehend.

It was likely that she could travel to almost anywhere in the world. As long as it was connected there was no doubt that she could be present. All of this was just swirling around in the mind of the towering Englishwoman as she was still sitting in her seat and seemed to be completely useless.

For all the strength and experience that she had, Elizabeth felt as though she could do nothing to help in the situation. There was great temptation to pick up a bottle of whiskey that was close by and drink it quickly. That was all that she felt that she could do under the conditions that she had found herself in.

The bottle was still in her hands and she stared at it. Knowing how much of a problem that she had with alcohol and how it had led her to where she was. In her mind, it would be simple to either drink it quicker than many thought was possible. Or even apply just the slightest amount of pressure and allow it to shatter in her hand.

There were so many memories of how this demon in a bottle had affected her life over the last two decades. The peaks and valleys of her existence on this planet had been memorable for better or worse.

Slowly, her hand did unscrew the top of the bottle and continued to look at it. Not knowing whether she should drink it or not. This was something she couldn’t help go through her mind over and over with no end in sight. However, slowly the now open bottle came up to her lips and carefully she placed it against her lips. With some haste, she did begin to drink it fairly quickly.

I do feel bad for Serena's shrunken state however from a reader's perspective I prefer her staying small. So the team consists of a Giantess, Amazon and a doll. With their sizes and abilities not overlapping much.

Selena's advance powers getting offsetting by her new small status. However, it also helps establish her being the team's spy.
