Love works like these where you really wanna know the story behind the character

Looking at this I can make two stories:
1. He is an evil Lord who has just finished razing a village;
2. His home has been destroyed and everyone he loves killed. He has been raised from the dead to get his revenge.
I could probably come up with some more, but that detracts from how amazing this is. The background adds so much more depth to the image.
