The old shipmate that Garin had in mind was probably the only one of them that would ever put that infamous gold band on the third finger of the left hand. Not that any of them disliked the idea of having families, per say, it was just the idea of being tied down into one place for the rest of their lives, though that came from their constant adventuring around Neopia.

In his own way, Victor was no exception. The Krawk loved adventure and thrill, and could take whatever the world had to throw at him… except, of course, for a pair of aquamarine eyes belong to a certain Ixi. His one weakness, and yet in many ways, what kept him going; his wife Betsy.

The way the two met, fell and love, and married was like something out of those romance books that he never bothered reading. Victor had once been part of another pirate crew, Betsy their captive that he managed to free before any harm could be done to her. Some years later, the two met again and fell in love, though by this time Victor had joined the crew of the Black Pawkeet, and now they had three children.

Garin stopped briefly to look over the large, manor-like house at its gate before passing through and walking down the cobblestone path to the main door. The house belonged to Victor’s large family, and its matriarch, Vivian. Garin knew Vivian well enough that he was always welcome to visit, but he was still wary as he walked up to the Krawk’s home. Victor’s family numbered in the hundreds, so it was safe to say that not all his family members would recognize Garin as a friend.

Thankfully, a family member he knew fairly well answered his knocks and let him inside, before guiding him back to the garden in the back, where he saw a Faerie Ixi sitting on the grass, with two small Krawks sitting before her, and a small Ixi on her lap.

“Captain Garin!” Betsy said with a smile as he walked over to her.

“Afternoon, Betsy.” Garin said, crouching down to her level. “Glad to see you so well. And these little rascals too!”

Vanessa, the little Island Krawk, snapped her tiny jaws at him, trying to show how intimidating she was, despite her small size. Her Pink sister, Victoria, stood up on wobbly little legs, her tail trying to balance her out, and finally, Bennett, the Striped Ixi, stayed contently on his mother’s lap and held fistfuls of her apron. Garin chuckled as Victoria wobbled a bit more before sitting down and nearly knocked into her sister.

“Look at that, already starting to walk, eh?” he said.

“The girls are, but Bennett’s still content to crawl. I suppose Krawks do grow a little faster anyway.” Betsy replied.

“Aye, that may well be.” Garin nodded, looking at her. “Is your husband in?”

“He is.” Betsy said, adjusting Bennett in her lap. “Is something wrong?”

“No, nothing. Just have a proposal I think you two may like.”

“Is’at so?”

Garin turned to look over his shoulder and smiled. “Well, talk about good timing, Victor.”

“I knew you were in port but I didn’t think you’d come to us first.” Victor said, shaking hands with his captain has he stood. “Good to see you, all the same!”

“Likewise. Good to see all of you.” Garin said. “And how’s the rest of the family?”

“Well…” Victor sighed. Garin frowned.

“Oh?”

“There was a slight family dispute a few weeks ago, and it still hasn’t been settled. Vivian’s had her hand’s full.” Betsy said.

“Did it come to blows?” Garin asked.

“And bites, scratches,” said Victor. “N’ you know how my family gets in a scrap. I’d have helped settle it myself, but…” Victor glanced at his family as Vanessa attempted to toddle her way over to him. “I had other, more important things to worry about.”

“Then I think you may really like my offer.” Garin said. “Let’s sit down and talk it over, aye?”

“Alright.” Victor said, picking Vanessa up and then sitting beside his wife.

“Sea Cat? A governor?” Victor laughed aloud. “Well I’ll be damned!”

“Dear, language!” Betsy scolded softly, elbowing Victor in the arm.

“Sorry, love.”

“Believe me, it’s about as believable as the notion of me and the rest of the crew becoming temporary privateers.” Garin said with a chuckle. “But that’s about the gist of it. We’re going to help her out for a year while she’s governor, but the reason I bring this up is she says there’s land waiting to be settled on Tartaruga, and I remembered how you said you were thinking about settling down in your own home, so I figured I’d offer.”

Betsy looked at Victor as he rubbed his chin. “Well?”

“Given how tense things are around here of late, another fight is bound to break out sooner or later, unless mum can calm things down.” Victor said. “And as much as I hate to abandon my kin at a time like this, I would like to start out somewhere knew.”

“I agree. I think it would be the best for the children.” Betsy said with a nod.

“You’ll do it then?” Garin asked. “Settle on Tartaruga?”

“I’ll talk with my mother, but yes,” said Victor. “It looks like we’re going to settle on Tartaruga. And if you’ll have me, I’d like to join up with you once Betsy and the little ones are settled. After all, I owe Sea Cat for all the help she was in the delivery.”

“Likewise.” Betsy said.

“Alright. Well Cat is leaving for Tartaruga tomorrow and the crew and I are resupplying today. So, you two talk to Vivian, then pack up and come aboard the Pawkeet. We’re going to sail with tomorrow’s morning tide.”

“You seem a bit more eager for this than you let on, cap’n.” Victor said as he stood, picking up Vanessa and Victoria before helping Betsy stand.

Garin tilted his head. “How do you mean?”

“For someone who doesn’t like the idea of being a privateer, you seem exited, is all.” Victor replied. “I suppose this is just another adventure to you, aye?”

Garin paused, looking down a bit in thought before letting a smile cross his face and laughing aloud. “Aye, I… I guess you’re right!”
Victor and his family will be settling on Tartaruga, and what next? We'll find out in the next episode!

:XD: I loved the line "...was like something out of those romance books that he never bothered reading." That had me laughing for five minutes straight! :D

Glad to see Victor and Betsy discussing things as a team before a decision is made. And its adorable to see Victoria and Vanessa able to stand and trying to walk. It's great that they're growing up so fast.

I picture Victoria always being the first to try anything new, and Vanessa is second right away, because she's competitive. X3

:) Now that would make sense! That sibling rivalry would be strong between those two.
