Decision

By
This is a illustration for ArtStation Journey challenge. But I choose another one to be my final painting.
This painting named "Decision", it shows the "meeting" during trips. They r discuss about something, like which way to choose, or what to eat. LOL I'm not sure that everyone could see Background clearly.

The composition of this is very nice. I like the highlighting of the kneeling woman and then slowly realizing there was more to see in the background.

It is a great picture and I agree with Merrypaws about the composition.

Plenty of detail; excellent light effects; good positioning of figures.  Makes me want to know more, like what is the cylinder on her back and the blu-glo thing.  I would imagine that that is a map in front of her and assume it is the directions they are discussing.  The contrast of books, scrolls and tech stuff is interesting, some might say a bit Gungan, but I say not a bad thing.  Hmm lets give it a go...

Marchala cast her left hand over the map, picking up traces of Ethereal Inspiration.  She had pinned it to the ground with transive bone markers and was sensing the direction the Hammata had gone ahead of them.  Karn and Gadralan were sure that since they could still see no tracks coming from the stream, that the Hammata were still travelling along the shallow water; indeed the muddy brown water suggested disturbance; however the gap in the gorge where Karn and Gadralan's beasts were standing would be the first place the Hammata could realistically leave and she was determined not to lose them...

Perhaps she is just a little too clean for the circumstances, the left knee is a bit angular and yes, I fear that some might not notice the background. Your determination to to the 6Kart thing and have sharp focus on the figure in the light contrasting with blurr/dim may have gone just slightly too far this time, maybe one should see just the faintest of features on Karn's face.

I just did a journal on this subject ( 4.0).
You really bring the past, present and future together rather fantastically!
The path to be taken is always shrouded in mystery. Awesome

My favorite thing about this piece just might be the composition. It all works like reading a story.
The eye is first drawn to the girl and her dinosaur mount in the foreground. From there, the viewer is directed by following their line of sight and the patch of sunlight to the figures at the opposite shore. And then these two, plus their mounts, even the small red lizard in the foreground all seem to point even deeper into the hazy darkness. It draws you in step by step, making you wish you could peek behind the river bend and see where the journey leads to.
Brilliantly done.

I think you could get away with making the highlights on the dinosaurs in the background to pop a little more. Then again it makes for a very nice surprise when you do spot them and the flow of the composition does an excellent job of leading your eye there. Hmm, tough decision but I think ultimately you've made the right call.

Anyway, always a pleasure looking at your work man, good luck in the competition! :D
