I know this comment is old but... You're clearly not a true Mario fan then...

I grew up on SMB2, and I adore Wart and all his cronies... If anything, they deserve to come back. :T

Y'know, not many people know this, but the same people who made the Mario games also made "Dream Factory: Doki Doki Panic."
Including Shigeru Miyamoto, Mario's creator. (He even regarded the game, and discussed the making of it, during a "SMB 25th anniversary interview." So apparently he even considers it part of the "Mario canon.")
If Miyamoto doesn't mind the game being remade into a Mario game, then neither should we, I say. It's still a fun game, as far as I'm concerned.

I honestly don't get why it's become "trendy" on the internet to bash SMB2. ("" even put on their "worst games" list.)
The real SMB2 ("Lost Levels") was actually quite hard, (yet still a good game) and was only fun if you get really good at the original SMB1 game.
Some people actually prefer the "Doki Doki Panic" version over it.

Frankly, I'm glad they remade DDP into SMB2, because we wouldn't of gotten DDP any other way if it wasn't. (In fact, SMB2 had some improvements like improved background animations, and the ability to run faster by holding "B," so they did more to improve the game then just adding Mario characters replacing the Fuji TV ones.)
I actually liked that game alot as a kid, and even if it didn't play like SMB1, it was still a good game, had great level designs, happy music, fun bosses, (that even react when attacked, making them seem more "alive") and the "pick up, and throw things" gameplay gimmick made the game feel very interactive for an 8-bit game at the time.

In fact, the POW Block was in the original DDP game, (and it was originally an item from the arcade "Mario Bros." 1983 game) so some fans speculate they might've considered making DDP a Mario game originally.

If it wasn't for the developers assuming that western gamers would find the original version of Super Mario Bros. 2 too difficult, we wouldn't have gotten this little gem and some of the now canon foes like Shy Guys. :D

Nice touch using the title screen logo. ;)

This was one of my childhood favorites, though sadly it seems to get put down alot lately on the internet.
