I've semi-joked my entire conscious life that I'd love a device that records and transcribes my dreams into tangible media (just as many stories have hinted at, like Paprika, The Cell, The Matrix, most of cyberpunk really) ... but idk, with the alarming rate of artificial "intelligence" making art, there's a fear that device will actually get made and........ the actual creative results will just feel incredibly underwhelming to what I've always wanted.
So, until then, I just keep a tiny notepad or my phone near me so when I wake up I'll be able to jot some of it down as best as able.
It's a bit like working out or learning an instrument; takes reps!
Writing is crazy like that.
What's funny* is I can sometimes catch myself spontaneously writing something rather profound. But it's just idle online commenting like with you, other close friends, or just participating in a shitpost on some random day of some random topic.
And then I knuckle down, get back into my script Word Document .......and I'm like.
(*it's not really that funny at all)
But yeah, it is its own craft that also really takes a process, depending on the individual. No one wrong way to do it, but so many "right" ways you hear about from other successful writers that it can feel paralyzing.
At least the end result, coupled with the artwork, ends up feeling a lot like something uniquely you. Doesn't have to be jawdroppingly amazing- just something that speaks to the truth of your characters and view of things.
"Horribly terrifying" ... and maybe that's okay?
(sometimes art needs to be that!)
Oof yes. The ol' "lemme just wash my face and— ...o no. it's all gone"
