Sam was playing Snakes & Ladders when the world went dark.
It was probably a good thing, since the opponent trashing him was his five-year-old niece, who was winning for the sixth time in a row. She was on square 87, while he was still stuck on square 35, after being swallowed by snakes one after the other. It was actually a miracle he was on square 35, since he was this close (literally one step over) to ending back on the first row of the board.
This was Sam's thought as the lights cut out. At first, he blamed it on the dodgy electricity that existed in his Uncle's house, but then he found he wasn't sitting on his chair and he wasn't at the table. No, he couldn't even feel his feet; he couldn't feel his body at all and he couldn't see. The final insult was the disappearance of his Aunt's lovely roast whose smell was wafting from the kitchen not a minute ago.
It was like Sam existed in a vacuum in space, but that wasn't quite right either... A black hole. Yes, that was more

"LILY! Do you see it?!"
"See what?"
"There's something huge out there! In the sky!"
Lily sighed at what was most likely another stunt pulled by her younger brother. This would make the thirteenth (if not the thirtieth) time that Teddy had tried to get her attention today. She had a bunch of coursework to do and not enough time to do it, but she knew that if she ignored him right now, he would get progressively louder and louder until she couldn't concentrate.
With great reluctance, Lily paused the video she was watching, stood up and walked over to where Teddy was jumping up and down in excitement. She followed the direction of where he was jabbing towards and shook her head.
"I can't see anything."
"It's right there! What do you mean you can't see anything?! Look, it's getting bigger and bigger! I think it's going to land in our garden!"
Lily slowly looked from one side of the window to the other, but couldn't understand what Teddy was talking about. There was nothing in the

A Mirror World
Did you know, we live in a mirror world?
Air filled with salt water, a land that's pearled
With every kind of flora and fauna,
Similar creatures in every corner.
It is said that they used to live on land,
But migrated, evolved, from mud to sand.
If you look closer, past the rolling waves,
You will see them in underwater caves.
On land, a spider. Under, a shelled crab.
And serpents and eels, slippery to grab.
Big, majestic horses turn into small,
Cute seahorses, and cats to catfish call.
What about us, you may be wondering...
With magic and a bit of conjuring
Mermaids abound. But (maybe) they have been
here (always) swimming, not keen to be seen.
