Thanks. This was one of the first images I created when I started playing with Apohysis, letting it create random images - I just got lucky. I think I adjusted this one to get the other Alien Cobweb I posted here. Unfortunately I lost the original flame file.

I know how it is.  It uses one of the color files from the old Apophysis and is probably set so that only a fragment of the fractal shows on the screen, moving the fractal forward produces this effect.  I couldn't say, off the top of my head which fractal type, heart, waves, (neither of those) etc. was used.  I suspect I could create something similar in a few minutes, though.

Hee, hee! Yep, I was using Apophysis 2.09 (it says so here… ) - I just couldn't get the hang of the newer version (can't recall what it was back then, but it seems to be 7X now - I guess it was probably the same back then?).

I found the render of the original random flame on ShareCG… (it's image 6), so both the Alien Cobwebs I posted here (and they wereposted at ShareCG too… ) were adjusted versions of that. No notes about which of the fractal types were used. But as you said it should be easy to create something similar... if you know what you're doing. And I definitely don't ! ;)

I just turned on my old version of Apophysis, I still use it, not the new one.  The first fractal that came up looked kind of cobwebby, even had a cobwebby gradient.  I zoomed in, and am running a script to print ten variations.  I may upload one tomorrow.  It is taking a long time.  This happens when you use the zoom function, in my experience.
