Nikita's Bedroom Sketch, Tolstoy's Master and Man
It’s cold out again tonight. The frigid Russian winters creep through every crack and crevice into the worn-down hovel Nikita calls home.
A small, wood-fired stove is cool to the touch. There’s nothing left to burn but old hay from the barn. Footprints of ice trace Nikita’s most recent steps across the wood floor.
A single shelf decorates the far wall, holding an empty bottle still fragrant with wisps of strong vodka. If Nikita were here and not running around in the blizzard on a midnight errand for his master, he would be tucked away in his bed after a hard day’s work. His hole-studded coat that cost him three month’s wages would be resting its tired shoulders on the back of the rickety chair he hasn’t sat on in days, and his thin scarf and mittens would be hanging half-frozen over the cool stove.
There’s a small wooden box beneath Nikita’s bed. Inside is a folded packet of old papers, a candle, a single copper rouble, and two matches.

I specialize in proofreading, and have some competency when it comes to editing and providing constructive, critical feedback. If you need somebody to write for you, either as part of an original project or a fandom passion (Fan Fiction) I can do that.

A Study of Various Avin Lifestyles
Chapter 4 – Niches and Jobs
Part 6 – Trainers/Tamers
An oddity among jobs and duties, occasionally Avin will tame and train wild animals to perform a variety of tasks.
While some on smaller Islas with few Avin may dabble rather than specialize in the skill, large Islas typically nurture numerous dedicated Trainers of varying capability.
There are those Avin who will tame small wingless animals, however, most Trainers prefer working with birds.
The skill of the Trainer can reliably be deduced based on the birds they keep, however some Trainers prefer certain birds based on personal choice, their particular Isla’s needs, or availability of wild birds.
Birds can be roughly broken up into the following 3 classes of Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced birds:
Beginner birds are frequently seen flying in the skies above every Isla as they busily attend to the tasks entrusted to them by their Trainers.

Kawena Voice Practice - 'Their First Time'
My eyes close.
I feel your warmth right next to me.
Am I dreaming? I wonder as you sigh into my chest, fast asleep.
It feels so real this time that I can’t help but be afraid.
Is that just my sigh I’m hearing? Is it only my own warmth I’m feeling?
Before my eyes can open, I cling to you with all my might so that you don’t disappear with my dreams. But when I open my eyes, you’re still here.
You’re right here.
Exhaustedly I hold open my eyes, hoping, praying that this doesn’t turn out to be the dream.
Only when you hold me back, only when I feel your grasping hands clinging to me can I close my eyes without fear. You let me know that you’re here, and that you’ll still be here when again I open my eyes.
Yet, each time I do, I’m amazed.
I close my eyes and you’re here.
I open my eyes and you’re still here, sleeping right next to me.
I remind myself I’m awake.
This isn’t the dream.
