Is the bottom splitter scheme real? I never saw an Alicat with it.
0viking0's avatar
It is. It's their new scheme applied to some recently refurbished Tomcats.

This one speaks the truth, I have seen it.

Does the aircraft with the dessert camo has a different mission than the other one?
0viking0's avatar
And yes... mission was unchanged. F-14 is still Iranian main air superiority fighter.

No. Desert camouflage was in fact American "Asia Minor" camouflage which was applied at the factory (in USA 1975-79) to all Iranian F-14s.

Blue-gray camouflage was applied in Iran after overhauling in last 15 years.

US Navy retired all but a handfull of Tomcats

You think Iran has any of these still flying ?
0viking0's avatar
They are still flying in Iran that's for sure

Here U can find not so old news when Russian Knights were escorted by Iranian Tomcats and Phantoms.

As many as they can, which is only a handful.

F-14A's are still better aircraft than the F-4's and other aging fighters in their fleet, so they'll keep them in service as long as they can manage without access to new parts.
