My very first GTK theme

:bulletblue:

About the theme

Hope is based on Ambiance, it started as a modification to match a nice Metacity theme (see the credits), then became an exercise to learn how to make GTK themes, and now we have this.

:bulletblue:

Credits

:bulletblue: Ambiance by Canonical(or someone who works there).
:bulletblue: Some code and elements from Elementary-GTK by :icondanrabbit:
:bulletblue: Some code and elements from ImperssionGTK
:bulletblue: The metacity is Before Dawn by :iconebupof:

:bulletyellow:In the screenshot:bulletyellow:

:bulletyellow: The wallpaper is C.O.L.D by :icon0rax0:
:bulletyellow: The icons are a mix of:

:bulletyellow: Faenza by :icontiheum:
:bulletyellow: Elementary by :icondanrabbit:
:bulletyellow: Ubuntu-mono by Canonical

:bulletorange: Known Issues:

:bulletorange: The text in Firefox's Awesomebar is unreadable.
:bulletorange: The panel backgrounds are inconsistent.
:bulletorange: The theme asks for an unavailable icon theme.

:bulletgreen: Fixed Issues:

:bulletgreen: The metacity theme is working fine now.
:bulletgreen: The links color in blue instead of orange.
:bulletgreen: There is a tar.gz file inside, you can drag and drop in the Appearance window.

Great theme but I always get the message

~/.themes/Hope/gtk-2.0/apps/gnome-panel.rc:121: error: unexpected character `\', expected string constant

Any ideas?

You didn't happen to modify the file, did you? Because I don't see anything out of the usual. And I can't test this since it's a GTK2 theme.

I seem to have a problem with the controls of your theme.
I have Gnome 2 and Murrine installed.
I'm running Debian Squeeze.
Here's a screenshot: [link]
Any clue on how to fix this?

I'm sorry, I don't have GNOME 2 anymore, so I can't test this. I guess you have a too old or too new Murrine. Not sure though.

No thanks, means to Install GTK3, it's a no-go. :/
Great theme otherwise.

A great theme overall but has a small problem with Ubuntu Unity (haven't seen whether this problem occurs in classic GNOME too). The scrollbar is missing on some sites in Firefox (e.g., DistroWatch) and it's missing completely in LibreOffice. Setting GtkScrollbar::has-backward-stepper and ::has-forward-stepper = 1 and stepperstyle = 3 fixes this but, obviously, the steppers become active. Otherwise, very well done and one of the very few themes to work correctly with the Unity panel and calendar.

Thanks :)

I had this problem with many themes way before Unity, unfortunately, I'm not using Unity nor GTK+ 2 and currently interested in GNOME Shell and GTK+ 3, so this may or may not be fixed :(

As for the compatibility with Unity, it's because 'Hope' is based on the default theme, so the credits for that go to the creator of 'Ambiance' :P

This is a great theme :). I just wanted to ask that i'm learning gtk+3 themeing and if u dont mind i'll make a gtk+3 port of ur theme. It would be great to have this on gtk+3 too. :)
