Tahu Mistika Revamp by 0nuku Tahu Mistika Revamp by 0nuku
After putting together Lewa as my first Flickr upload and Gali for BobtheDoctor's contest at the end of last year, I've pretty much made it my mission to revamp the Phantoka/Mistika over the course of my time at Flickr. So here's the next entry, Tahu Mistika.

Tahu's Mistika mask was probably one of the most controversial of Bionicle, but in contrast, his 2016 mask is one of the best, so might as well use it here.

Wow, I can actually tell what I'm looking at now, unlike the original 2008 set. Nice. Also, I think it would've been a nice touch to use either the Stars or Gen 2 hands if possible.

Thank you very much, by the way, for using RED instead of that hideous brick color we got in 2004...

Meh, Mistika were a low point already, revamping hardly helps. Too much silver, and doesn't look fiery at all.

The shield blades are cool tho.

I swear to god it's now just a meme to hate the mistika sets, the Hagah should have gotten as much shit if not more for all the same reasons (too much metallic, derivative body designs)

Actually, no. The Toa Hagah were a much needed improvement. Even though they were heavily based on the Toa Metru, they fixed a LOT of what was wrong with the build. They fixed the stubby arms by having Metru shins instead, fixed the dull color scheme by removing all of that hideous dark gray and using black SPARINGLY as an accent color, fixed the awkward gearing in the shoulders by having a friction pin in one of them, and fixed the scrawny look with some chest armor. I just wish the designers would have come up with a solution to make the shoulders more posable...

I mean, yeah they were clones, but only 2 of them, and the designs weren't that bad. Mistika's design just felt like weak MOCs. Tho real hate should be targeted at Metru, Hordika, Bohrok-kal and all those. Damn, were those clones shameless!

I think a big part of the reason everyone hated the Mistika so much is because they were supposed to be upgrades of existing sets. It would have been hard to improve on the aesthetics of the Toa Nuva as it was; they had awesome weapons that doubled as travel alt-modes, the BEST color scheme ever, and cool masks. Everyone was hoping that the Mistika would take everything that was cool about them to a whole new level... and we got the Mistika. I was disappointed too.

Phantoka managed to be good, and that only adds to the later disappointment.

Even with the G2 mask and the blue, this looks far more Tahu than 08 Tahu ever was

Great job!

I personally liked the Toa Mistika, they could be better but I think they weren't bad at all.
The trans-blue pieces give it a really special touch contrasting with the red pieces. I am missing a bigger silver piece in the pelvis are though, it looks a bit empty to me
