Bright yellow blooms danced under the golden rays of midsummer sun, a waltz in the warm breeze that offered little relief from the heat.
Mallory stepped onto the back porch of her childhood home, her unassuming secret retreat. The sun‑warmed boards creaked softly beneath her bare feet as she settled onto the old steps. She drew in a deep breath, savoring the sweet mix of wildflowers, dry heat, and grass.
For the first time in weeks, she had a moment to herself. Here, overlooking the field she’d grown up with, she could finally rest. She leaned back on her hands and closed her eyes.
