With personal projects, I was actually pretty OK with 16 gigs for a long time; I ran into memory issues only once in a while... but 32 gigs do make a difference. Not at work, though. If we need to render scenes (animations as well as stills) with multipass or G-buffer enabled, sometimes we max out 64 gigs as well.
I used VUE's photometric lighting model. There are virtually countless options to set up (outdoor) lighting and atmosphere in VUE, but you can also switch to environment mapping, if you prefer using HDR or EXR-based IBL. Thank you!
