Walk a day in my shoes.
Feel what it’s like to be me.

This punishment weighs down my soul,
like a neverending storm cloud of tears.
Lonely, hurt, and so very sad.
Is anyone there?
Standing in a crowd, and yet so utterly alone.

My heart cries out,
but I never say a word.
Can’t you see the hurt in my eyes?
Can’t you hear the hurt in my sighs?
My silent cry for help.

All I wish for is a listening ear,
an understanding heart,
and the security that no matter what I say,
those I love will never go away.

Written for a fellow patient during my time in the hospital. She did not know how to express how she was feeling and why she had tried to do what she had done that brought her to the hospital.

That is great. It is so nice of you to write something for her. To help her put her emotions into words. ~Amy

wow.....that really strikes a nerve. It conveys very well what everybody feels, but never talks about.

I love the start. "walk a day in my shoes, feel what it's like to be me". Really powerful.

A powerful poem especially to those who can identify with this truly (I can myself, in fact I think I once wrote a poem on this topic :))
