With the success of “The Hills Have Eyes,” NBC approached Craven to direct an adaptation the Young Adult short story “Summer of Fear” by children book writer Lois Duncan (the same writer of the book turned into a movie, “I Know What You Did Last Summer”). Craven was initially hesitant to direct this, but he eventually built up the confidence and said yes, finding himself directing a previous star who had made her mark on the horror genre, Linda Blair of “The Exorcist” fame who had been in serious financial debt for drug possession at the time and was taking any role she could in order to pay it
