RC-0791 In With Aurek - part 3
His ears wouldn't stop ringing. His body ached all over.
Am I dead?
Bonk tried to move his arms, but he couldn't. He tried again. A surge of pain shot up through his shoulder.
Nope, not dead.
He felt like screaming, but why bother? His squad was probably dead, and he was probably left for dead out there on the sand, so his screams of pain would go unanswered.
Bonk could feel something touching him on his neck, his chest, his shoulder.
Great. A Geonosian's checking me to see if I'm tasty. I don't want to end up as bug food!
"Sir?"
He held his breath. That was a clone's voice.
"Sir, wake up."
He strained his eyes open and

"If this is about shiny-boy," Hunter grumbled, "he got on my nerves. I don't like talking about it."
"Ner vod, speak to me."
"No."
"Please?"
After a moment of silence, he spoke. "Why should I?"
Bonk took a deep breath. "A leader must know his men."
Hunter chuckled softly and mumbled something under his breath.
That did it. Bonk ejected his vibroblade. "Tell. Me." He said firmly.
He sighed. "Fine." His voice suggested he was more irritated than intimidated. "Losing our leader was painful. Fierfek, it feels like a long time ago. Why'd he have to die?" He stood up. "We could've spen

Bonk wobbled out of the gunship--whether it was from grief or fatigue, he was unsure--and started working his way towards the med bay. Knowing that at least one of his squad mates was okay would cheer him up. As he got closer, he saw a clone beside the door, leaning against the wall. It was one of the medics. Their eyes met and Bonk took a deep breath. "Where's Damon?"
The medic looked away. "I'm sorry."
Bonk's stomach started to ache. "What do you mean?"
"I'm sorry, Bonk. We couldn't help him."
"E-e-explain."
"Damon was too critically injured. There wasn't much we could do, and he ended up dying from his injuries."

Balac tipped his head back to peer up at the stormy sky, watching the LAAT/i gunships make their descent towards the landing platform. The raindrops hitting his helmet visor blurred his vision somewhat, but he had no problem seeing the occasional streak of lightning that radiantly lit the sky, which silhouetted the incoming ships. RC-4022, Forn Squad's sniper, stood beside him, also looking at the sky.
Vercopaanir, as they've named him, was not only the squad's youngest member, but also their shadow. He was incredibly stealthy, appearing one moment and disappearing the next without a sound. Sometimes he would sneak up behind someone,

A few moments later, the cranky commando returned. An ARC trooper was walking with him. Bonk wasn't sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing.
Hunter stepped beside the others, and the ARC looked Bonk up and down. "So you're the replacement, then?"
"Yes, sir." Bonk replied.
"I have a new assignment for you boys if you're ready." The trooper said, almost sarcastically.
"We're ready for anything!" Drayko said as he raised his flamethrower with pride. At least, Bonk thought it was pride.
"Very well. We believe there is a Separatist outpost down on the planet Dalkorra. Your mission is to scout the rumored area for it."

"I hope the ship gets here soon!" Zek shouted as he blasted a Geonosian in the head. "They just keep coming! Why do these bugs want the cargo?"
"Since you haven't noticed, Zek, they want us!"
Bonk ejected the vibroblade in his hand plate and shoved it into a bug's neck. He looked up and saw more flying in. The Geonosians began to surround them. Bonk and Zek blasted as many as they could, but they had to occasionally fight them hand-to-hand.
A Geonosian swung its large staff at Bonk, attempting to knock him down. Fortunately, Bonk evaded most of the swings. Unfortunately, he tripped backwards over a rock. The bug stood over him, but

"Nicknames!"
That was the one thing the squad was missing. Nearly every soldier had one, whether they thought one up themselves, or earned them through various events.
Yes, nearly every soldier--except Aurek Squad.
"Wouldn't you agree it would make our lives better, 17?"
17 shook his head. "Better to ask 91 than me. I'll admit, it would be a nice change, but it should be the leader's decision."
The other clone shrugged and looked up at their leader, who was leaning against the wall. "How about you, 91? Should we come up with nicknames for each other?"
RC-0791 winced slightly at the question. 92 had brought this up

Hak got up from where he lay.
He paused.
"Gah! Ow!" he muttered.
He cracked his neck and continued with what he was doing. He looked around, just by looking he knew there were no survivors besides himself from that blast. His pristine armor had been covered in soot and red sand.
"Maybe war isn't all it's cracked up to be. Sigh...time's wasting! I gotta get going here!"
He trotted off down the trenches to complete his objectives.

The gunship entered the hot and dry atmosphere with a shudder. The vehicle creaked and rumbled as Hak and the few clone troopers stood in silence, awaiting insertion.
Hak could barely hear the voice of the pilot calling out to him above all of the chaos outside combined with the sound of the ship's engines.
"Alright sir! We're coming up on the drop point! Prepare fo-" the pilot was cut off as the doors opened and the ambient noise of battle drowned him out completely, but Hak got the idea.
The gunship descended to a low altitude as the commando jumped from the cabin onto the red sands that now stained his boots, previously foreign to all t

"All aboard!" Zek's cheerful cry was nearly drowned out by the booming thunder overhead as he and two of his brothers raced to the waiting LAAT/i on the platform.
RC-0791, their leader, watched with amusement. This was Aurek Squad's first official day in the war, and his first day of leading them to victory. His team was certainly eager, to say the least; Damon, their demolitions expert, had actually packed his gear the moment he received his backpack. He chuckled to himself. Training was an adventure, as well, and he would never forget the day his squad gifted him a name of his own.
"Hey, Bonk!" A voice shouted, snapping him out

They sat down and slid their helmets to one side of the table.
"I believe it's time I introduced you to the team." Scar said cheerfully. "We're Vengeance Squad. I'm Scar, as you know, and I'm the squad's medic and technician." He pointed to the clone across from him, "This is Drayko, the squad's demolitions expert and flamethrower. And finally," He said as he pointed to a clone further down the row, "Hunter. He's our sniper and muscle, but he's a bit of a loner now. Losing our leader Gra'tua affected him most." Scar shook his head. "It's a shame, really. The cloaked figure sat contemplatively in his seat, meditating. He felt something was coming. He knew it. A single squad of Republic forces. They had been sent to eliminate him, but they didn't know who he was. They didn't comprehend what they were up against. He would enjoy this short lived fight. He waited eagerly.

Our intelligence has located a CIS shuttle preparing to leave port. We can't specifically identify your target kill, but we do know he is an important man. "Come out, come out, wherever you are...you bloody bug." said Hak, crawling through the narrow vents. He had to find that Geonosian or it would report his squad's presence, and in a place this heavily fortified, he'd prefer to go unnoticed. The vents were pretty small for a commando to be crawling through. Hak grew increasingly irritable as the claustrophobia set in.
Hak looked around in the small vent somewhat frantically and distant, "Damn, this vent sure is small...don't panic Hak...keep it together...sigh, yeah, no I'm losing it...WHERE IN THE BLOODY MANDA IS THAT FAT UGLY FIERFEK!!! GAH!"

He finally came to. Bonk slowly opened his eyes.
The medic was fanning him with a green shoulder bell--his green shoulder bell--and now there were three other clones next to him. Bonk groaned quietly as a commando in solid-black armor helped him sit up. Bonk looked at him for a short moment, then mumbled, "Who are you?"
The clone chuckled, "Name's Scar. What's yours?"
"Bonk."
The name must've hit something, for Scar had a surprised look on his face. However, it didn't last long. He laughed. "Bonk? What kind of name is that?"

Bonk shifted uncomfortably where he sat on a crate as an explosion erupted just outside. Rusty stirred beside him, then calmed when a reassuring hand was placed on his arm.
“Udesii, vod.” Bonk whispered over the comm. A simple nod was his response.

The clone deck officer yelled over the sounds of roaring gunship engines at a lone clone commando.
"Let's go, let's go! We don't have all day sir!" yelled the deck officer.
RC-2177, or Hak, dashed toward the gunship awaiting him and threw himself into the open cabin.
Several regular clone troopers followed suit.
Hak's radio crackled to life; "All right ner vod! This is Shank! We'll meet you on the ground sir!"
Shank, or RC-4641, was a member of Hak's squad, and was, in fact, the team hacker. Why hadn't he ended up with the name Hak instead? Neither of them knew. All they knew was Slash, or RC-5968, got named b
