The Thief and the Matoran- Part 5
The elevator descended slowly down the shaft. Markers along the way indicated how long the tunnel was, and how far they had descended. A quarter of a kio, half a kio, an entire kio, and then further still. It went down much further than Onua thought it would, and he could feel the air pressure increasing. The temperature rose to an uncomfortable level for a brief time as they must have neared a magma flow, before dropping to something more bearable. Otherwise, the ride down the elevator was uneventful, at least to Onua. Pohatu was clearly uncomfortable and spent the ride with one hand clutching the railing t

The Thief and the Matoran- Part 9
As soon as he touched the water, Kepu froze. His body straightened, his eyes staring straight ahead, and as the Toa watched, he stepped up onto the water’s surface. He took another step, walking on top of the water.
“No! Kepu!” Uri screamed, running forward.
“Uri, stop!” Onua reached out an arm, but Uri had already followed Kepu into the lake, wading in up to his waist. Uri caught up to Kepu and dragged him down off the water’s surface, pulling him back to shore.
“Stop! Don’t take him out of the water!” The thief cried out. He moved forward to block Uri, but suddenly there was a flash o

Hunters in Darkness
"These Matoran are a tightly-knit group. A millennium of fire has forged them together as no other population has been before. They unite and stand side by side in the face of danger, even when the threat is far greater than the individual. They will need it tonight; as their enemies dare to strike at their heart, their courage shall be put to the test."
- from The Journal of Meench Vyzumi
Tarajaga are abhorrent Rahi monsters. Rosamu had never seen one in person before, though he had certainly heard horror stories about them from the rest of the Ussalry.
A Tarajaga possesses the body and head of a massive

Not The Hero
"There is something to be said about the Matoran that call the island of Mata Nui their home. These are no mere bystanders who sit back and depend upon another bigger, stronger being to defend them. Here, every Matoran is expected to band together with his brothers and sisters to brave any danger. Here, even the most humble of Matoran can be a great hero."

"Wax harder, Rosamu! I want that Ussal crab's shell so shiny, I can see my Kanohi Pakari in its reflection!"
Rosamu nodded dutifully. "Yes, Onepu."

The Thief and the Matoran- Part 10
In honor of the lost Matoran, Onua raised a small monument out of the earth where they had found him. The inscription read: This tunnel was carved by Irhe, who mined deeper than any Toa. His love for the earth brought him to the deepest caverns, but his love for his people brought him home.
Onua carried Irhe back to Onu-Koro, followed by Kepu, who carried Irhe’s pack, and Uri, who carried Irhe’s pickaxe. Pohatu walked behind the procession, and the thief trailed further behind. The trip was made in silence, and when they walked through the village gates the same silence fell across all of Onu-Koro.
In honor of Irhe's last wish,

Lord's Offering
"There is not a single culture that does not have an instinctual fear of that which is different. If you do not look like them, you are immediately branded a monster before you can even open your mouth to assure them that you mean them no harm, assuming you can even speak their language. Only the most enlightened of thinkers or the most naive of fools would dare to believe otherwise."
- from The Journal of Meench Vyzumi
Rosamu stared at the one called Meench Vyzumi, the one with the hideous face of a monster, the poise of a warrior, and the wizened voice of an elder. It was such an alien combination of charact

Tried and Trusted
"They have seen fit to appoint me to this important mission, and I have sworn that I shall not fail. Even now, as I journey to the island to carry out my duty, I am orchestrating a plan that cannot fail. However, the first step will be the most difficult, for it will require gaining the trust of the Matoran. Trust is a gift so precious that it is rarely given, and, unfortunately, it has all too often been bestowed upon those who are less than grateful. Still, it is crucial that I must try."
