"Technically, there are no 'civilian' spotted hyenas--they're all trained to fight, and they enjoy doing so. But there's a caste distinction between those that are in the Brigade, and those who are not. And there's a caste distinction between the males and the females, officers and enlisteds, the various grades of officers, and, ultimately, the high-caste members of the Royal family.
