    The sky, clear, is a dusty blue, matching the rest of its earth-bound surroundings. The air is devoid of life, as though the birds in the area are afraid of the burning eye of the sun, which does glare down with a hint of menace. A lone killdeer drops from some indeterminable position like a stone, alighting on the sill of a broken window before hopping down to the ground. Scratching and pecking, looking for maggots, she utters her shrill "phweeee" and flashes her bright orange under-feathers at the RED Engineer, who, though he looks up, largely ignores her aggressive display. After a few more minutes of hopping around and shrieking, she
