Active and Passive Voice
Active Voice
Active voice occurs when the subject or agent in the sentence performs the action, often towards an object. For example, let's look at the following sentence written in active voice:
Katie spilled the milk.
In this sentence, Katie is the subject, and she performs the action (spilling) on the direct object (the milk.) The most obvious way to spot active voice is through the use of active verbs, which are simply verbs that express actions. In most cases, the sentence will take on the simple form of the tense it's in, whether past, present, or future.
Passive Voice
In passive voice, the object being acted upon is emphasized over the agent. A passive version of the previous sentence would look like this:
The milk was spilled by Katie.
In this sentence, our object (the milk) appears before the action (was spilled) and the agent (Katie.) You will also notice that this sentence is in the progressive fo

Babysitting - part 1
Part 1
Written by geckoguy123456789 (dA)(FA) for Kai
“Come on…. just a little more……” the young jackal muttered, her fingers frantically and skillfully working an Xbox controller while her eyes stayed glued to the TV screen. The flicker of the screen giving her black fur a blueish white hue, her eyes bright and golden taking in every movement like a predator on the hunt.  Her character danced around Ultimecia, throwing hit after hit into her, the young jackal unconsciously bobbing and ducking her head in sync with her attacks. While she’d normally be moving her whole body, her swollen abdomen kept her fairly pinned to the couch.
“NUUUUUUUUU!” she yelled as she threw her arms up in defeat, “apocalypse again……” she muttered sullenly as her character was obliterated by the ultimate move and Ultimecia cackled in victory. “Ug……. Why do I even

How to Improve Your Writing Style
While I’ve written articles about writing style in the past, they were designed mostly to define what style is and didn’t provide much help for improvement. This article contains some practical tips I’ve discovered that will actually help you improve your style and hopefully provide a foundation for why good style matters. I believe good style is important for many reasons, but mostly because I want my readers to feel like the time they spent with my story was worthwhile, pleasant, and maybe even a little enlightening.
“All readers come to fiction as willing accomplices to your lies. Such is the basic goodwill contract made the moment we pick up a work of fiction.” – Steve Almond
“Use the time of a total stranger in such a way that he or she will not feel the time was wasted.” – Kurt Vonnegut
1) Be clear.
“To be clear is the first duty of a writer; to charm and to please are graces to be acquired later
