35 years, probably translates into a human age as 25 years old or a little younger… Basically a young adult.
Personality: ESFP / ENFP
simple. Whether it be his behaviour, thoughts or desires, Chaerul’s a simple guy at heart. He loves food, swimming, adventure and pretty girls, and doesn’t care for much outside of that. While he has a deep appreciation for stories and drifting off in flights of fancy and fantasy, he has trouble following complex or abstract theory which - compounded with an astoundingly short attention span - gives him little to no patience for academics or thoughts beyond how he’s planning on killing time today. He likes taking the most direct path from A to B, has no patience for deceit ,and is pretty much an open book.
explosive. While he's usually amiable, if you catch him at a bad time he can be incredibly snappy - Chaerul's highly reactive, being easy to provoke into frustration and easy to fluster, but also highly sympathetic and easy to pull into other peoples’ pace. His volatile nature reflects in his work, where he experiences high and astoundingly brief bursts of energy followed immediately by complete loss of attention. With a habit of acting before thinking, he has a tendency to just follow his physical impulses and intuitions, making his behaviour erratic.
curious. At heart he’s driven by curiousity - a love for the romance of adventure and the mystery of the unknown. He loves stories (no matter how mundane) and is fascinated with doing anything new to satisfy his poor attention span. In the process, he’s managed to develop a shallow but varied collection of odd skills over the years.
extroverted. He’s a sociable person, loves chatting and being in crowds, and has a genuine interest in other people. He’s vain and loves to show off, but he’s also easy to impress and - on that topic - is quite impressionable and a little naive. Despite having a learned suspicion of others (something you naturally develop, hanging out with the crowd he does), he remains inherently gullible and is vulnerable to shows of emotion or sentimentalism.
Occupation: Treasure hunter & smuggler
Primarily, Chae kills time spelunking and treasure hunting in the twisting and winding underwater caves of eastern Lu Se. He's not in particular interested in the riches, driven more by an overwhelming curiousity and fascination for the unknown - though he often keeps any trinkets or raw gemstones he finds for himself or to sell.
With his time and experience exploring the various routes of Lu Se, he's also discovered a good number of nooks, crannies, and quiet caverns. For a small incentive, he'll gladly assist with stashing your goods (or you yourself, if you're in need of safe harbourage) in the safety of the dark, wet and uncharted. Being non-discriminate in his choice of clientele, his services are frequently utilised by smugglers and pirates, making him a common conspirator in less savoury matters.
His parents are salt-water merfolk who decided on a whim to take an extended leave of absence from parenthood to explore the waters of Yoryyn and Guarmi. They pawned Chaerul off on a family friend in Lu Se - and though they regularly touched base to share souvenirs and stories before their next great adventure, they were missing for the bulk of Chaerul's childhood. It wasn't a fact that seemed to bother him a great deal - the waters of Lu Se were plenty large enough to facilitate a child's attention any time he wasn't occupied with work or studies.
His caretaker, an experienced cave guide, thought better than to leave a hyperactive merboy's hands idle and took him in as an apprentice, where Chaerul learned to read and write, as well as navigate and map cave routes. Unfortunately lacking the discipline or patience to follow his warden into his profession of babysitting tourists, Chae instead took the knowledge to help him with his explorations of the deeper and substantially wetter portions of the Lu Se caves, in search of treasure and legends.
His overactive interest in other people and lands led him to forge a number of strong connections with travellers - ranging from innocuous merchants and bards, to more... Interesting individuals. With his friendship extending to smugglers and thieves, it seemed a natural extension of his abilities to assist them with their endeavours - not in exchange for coin, but for tales and information to sate his hungry imagination.
“Tell me a story--”
He carries a lot of rope on him at all times - at least one of which has two reasonably heavy bone hooks attached to either end. He uses it primarily for securing goods or tying himself to boats / rocks to rest...
The hooks aren't actually supposed to be used for fighting, though I suppose he could use them to grapple people into the water... He does carry a small bone dagger, though it has a dull edge and is more for utility or eating food, rarely for actual fighting.
He's really easily flustered by girls.
His general diet is small fish but he also like squid, octopus, crab and shrimp, amongst other miscellaneous seafoods. He eats raw and hates most cooked food but he’ll take grilled squid or octopus...
Pretty much his only consistent skill is his ridiculous sense of direction - it doesn’t take long for him to find his bearings pretty much anywhere you put him, and once he’s travelled a route once he won’t forget it. Maybe it’s something to do with his migratory instinct...
