WHAT'S THIS? MANA DID A TUTORIAL? Holy shit watch out - u -

Anyway... AutumnBunns asked me how I drew trees. So I did a tutorial for her u v u Heehhhe.. please note that I only draw tree trunks and not leaves because I am no good at leaves yet . 3 . Also, I hope you all know that my hand hurts now from all that writing and I had to adjust the canvas size like 3 times because it kept being too short xD

Notes

- I used a tablet
    - I use Paint Tool SAi and won't be much help if you use a different art program
    - PLEASE PLAY AROUND WITH IT. YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE THE SAME BRUSHES I DID, IT'S JUST A RECOMMENDATION!
    - Feel free to hit download and save it to your computer so you always have it. But please do NOT re-upload it to dA/different sites. Instead, link back here |D
    - I did not use the blur or water tools in this tutorial. To get a 'soft' look to your trunk just lightly blend the layers.

STEPS
Step One
Draw the trunks basic shape using the pen tool. Afterwards, use the acrylic tool to color in the top by making upward () strokes with the brush. Once done, you can fill in the remaining space.

Step Two
After completing step one, change to the marker tool. Here you're going to use the trunks base color to create lines. Make a new layer and 'clip' it to the base layer. Once you've done that, set it to multiply and use downward () strokes to create random lines. These begin to give it more of a look. Use different pressures, not just all one pressure.

Step Three
Repeat step two but with a darker color
Step Four
Repeat step two/three except with the color white and the layer set on overlay
Step Five
This step basically has to do with where your light source is. Here, my light source is on the right side of the tree. Use the color white to draw strokes going to the left ( <- ) when using the marker or acrylic tools. Remember to set your layer on overlay.
Step Six
Repeat step five except with the layer set on luminosity. For mine, I put the layer opacity at 41%.

A mini tutorial could I say. More like..I am more using to color than gray scale BUT i felt 'ok time to do gray scale'

many like me can have it hard sometime. Some use overlay and so...but try color layer. Just careful with the colors since more lighter you use it gets...yeah, not the color you want.

so I used color layer over the gray scale, then i added multiply (under color) and very low down to 15 - 20 opacity.

I add another color layer to add on the suckers (lol I said it...hehe)

Then i use the last touch to use color dodge (which give like glowing) very careful where I was to add color

then I add color balance to find the right one..then last the hue to make sure it do not get too dark either.

Try it out ^^ it's fun!
