Paul had always been short with words; this time would be no different.
"I know everything now."
Maya watched as he floated upwards through the hole in the ceiling.
There was no time to tell her what he had seen. What it was like to die while psychically connected to another being and how, in that moment, the mind-soul rides that tether like a roller coaster searching for the end of the track. That he rode that tether through the mind of Tal'shen and then into its mother, witnessing their lives, truths and stories.
No time to explain that he knew her race, perhaps better than her. That for millennia these stained glass people worshiped science as humans worshiped gods, and evolved a culture of unraveling the complex mysteries of the mathematical universe. They were a race that evolved exponentially because each was dedicated to self-improvement. He saw that, over time, there was a great shift - physical and mental - and an age came to pass when their mi

One-hundred and eighty three days from vomit on my pants to the fall of civilization. John Dryden once said, "...mighty things from small beginnings grow." Yeah, no shit.
There were more entities than we thought, hidden in other cities on other continents, and they all rose together in that terrible final struggle to fight us for control. I was wrong to think I was strong enough to stop them. I was so wrong.
At dawn, on the one-hundred eighty-fourth day of the war, all I can see from the roof of the House of Commons is the apocalypse. Across the Thames, the London Eye looms over the riverbank like a broken metal sentinel. There are fires in the gloom below--some lit for warmth, others burning out of control.
I had always wanted to bring Maya up here. Now I just come alone.
Down on the streets, among the remnants of humanity that still drag themselves across the cracked concrete—there are still active entit

Paul dressed. "Come on. She is going to the Eye."
There was no fear. No trepidation. Purpose. For the first time since this started he was certain of something. Sunrise was coming; they didn't have much time.
Maya stopped long enough to pick up her knife and move with Paul toward the door. "We have to stop her."
Running down the street, they followed the screams. Talshen moved with a terrible speed. Every tourist she passed, they exploded into agonizing sores. Their very flesh rippled tearing itself from their skeletons, poor sods screaming themselves to death. It was quick, mere seconds.
Then they rose.
Fast, fleshy, dripping black ichor and they attacked anyone foolish enough to be still standing there. Then the crowded boardwalk exploded with movement, people fleeing the horrors.
Maya stopped to cut one down. Paul looked at her and shook his head. He swatted one of the creatures out of his way, his body suddenly capable of fantastic stren

"Yes. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, I have to get closer to her." His voice seemed... deeper, and it carried a strange resonance to it that distracted her. She shook her head to clear the cobwebs and pointed. "Thar she blows, as the saying goes." Up ahead, illuminated by the city lights, was Tal'shen. Her form was huge and amorphous, a gelatinous mesh of pieces of that seemed to belong to the menagerie of the deep sea. The skin was a murky grey that crackled with bolts of rainbow colored lightning and gigantic tentacles lashed back and forth, either gripping onto or slamming into buildings. People on the streets below were scrambling like ants and fires were alighting in a scene of utter chaos. However, none of this was quite as unsettling to Maya as the serene, content smile on Paul's face. It was definitely not what one would exp

'Hello. My name is Tal'shen. Do not be afraid. I have come to inhabit your planet in peace. Before we could join you on Earth, my mother told me that something was wrong. Earth is dying. I want to save your planet, but the simple truth is this: YOU are the ones wasting your planet, so it is YOU that must be purged!'
At this remark, the alien form smashed several buildings carelessly as her delicate tentacles spread far along the streets, chopping, slicing, maiming, killing. They smashed down doors, searching every nook and cranny of London for any human that was frantically trying to escape.

"What is it lovelace?" He said with a smile.
"Im still a little nervous, I dont know if I can do this."
Jack looked at me with a soft smile that warmed my heart. He took me by the hands and pulled me close to him.
"lovelace, look at me sweetie." Jack smiled as he lifted my head with his bony hand.
"I will never let anything hurt you ever. Please trust me sweetie." His voice was as soft as a kittens purr.
For some reason or another I actually believed him. As I looked into his eyes I knew that he ment what he said, so I just knew I had to go..I knew I just had to be there with him. Then I remembered her, Sally...She looked so sad when she saw me and Jack holding hands.
"Jack?" I whispered softly.
"yes Lovelace what is it?" Jack cooed to me.

He remembered his pursuit of Tal'shen, but on reflection it had been less of a chase and more of an allowance to follow her, perhaps she had known that Paul had the seed to defeat her.
Despite his brave words to Maya, he was not truly purged of the beast. A small sliver of unnatural life lay trapped around his spine. Paul kept it for a reason, knowing the link, no matter how tenuous, would be the key to sooth the abomination.
Tal'shen had waited for him in a side street, one of London's many capillaries that litter her maps.
She could not speak from her curved beak, but Paul heard her many voices in his head, each confused, contradictory, clamouring for attention, but leading him to her nonetheless.
Standing before her, a coruscating mass, tentacles languishing through the air, Paul had known he would be outmatched physically, and prepared himself.

Have you ever seen sound?
There's a condition named for it: Synesthesia. The ability to hear and at the same time SEE what is, or might, be there.
Paul was experiencing something similar to that right now. Each word that had poured our of Maya's mouth had rung a bell in his mind. One that pulsed with all the colours of the void, similar to a violently organic oilslick that danced and twitched and wrapped around the edges of his consciousness.
It was how he'd been woven back together, the very sinew of those kaleidoscopic utterances stitched into his body now.
The word was being strangled by those tendrils. Tal'Shen was the final spindle around which all threads of this world would wrap and ultimately be strangled by. The words would cease, the colours would fade and the world would fade to oblivion's silent black. There would be nothing and, in this, all would cease. Paul could feel that null note of oblivion as well. That last grea

He marveled at his newfound strength, almost superhuman. The bones in his body felt stronger, though they were not brittle before, and his muscles felt stronger. He knew that the change within him would be an asset to the coming battle with Tal'shen. The world seemed sharper somehow, more distinct, each line separate and coming together to form a whole. Most of all, he could see clearly his destiny and what they must now do. But will Maya be willing to sacrifice herself to save Earth, he mused. He knew that there was a slim chance she would go along with this, but Paul also knew that the fate of the world was in his hands. Whether she was willing or not, he would thwart Tal'shen's plan. He finally felt a sense of purpose that he had been lacking all along. There was nothing that would be capable of stopping Tal'shen…save for Paul.

RebornTal’shen. Paul could hear it ravaging and decimating the city outside. He was reborn. He had survived. But all he could think about were the two of four he had uttered before. “I know”. He kept repeating this to himself. Battered, defeated, ragged he may have been, but he knew. And that was all that mattered. For a long time, he had felt the consciousness of Tal’shen bear down upon him, to the point that he had forgotten all about himself.Reborn1 year ago in Writing More Like This
Only hovering as an impotent spectre.
But no more. He knew who he was. And the knowledge coursed through his body, lending him strength. He also knew that killing the mutated Tal’shen was beyond him. But that didn’t mean that he couldn’t stop him. A fierce grin stretched his face, baring his teeth.
Beside him, Maya suddenly felt a deep terror shake her being, she turned to Paul, and in a moment, she too, knew that Paul was going to stop Tal’shen, and a similar grin tore the glassy contours of her face.

"The human body is a complicated machine, it takes time to heal" whispered Maya.
In reality, she wanted to make sure that it was only Paul remaining in the vessel. She had a strange sense that he was not alone. As though there was something other than Tal'Shen inside.
"What happens next?" inquired Paul.
"I don't know. Tal'Shen has grown too large for her existence. She will cease to be soon. It is her own doing, and saves us from a losing battle."
"So, it is over?" Paul had a smile on his face.
"Not exactly" Maya seemed worried. "Tal'Shen was nothing more than a virus that Lysanna implanted in you. She put it there to destroy something else. Something much bigger."
"So she was helping me?"
"No…" Maya felt she should explain more. She owed it

Paul looked at his hands, a look of fear and wonder dancing across his face, “It's still in me. I can feel it. It got left behind...”
He clenched his fists, shaking away the sorrow, a new resolve washing over him, “Take me to Tal'shen.”
They ran, coming across Tal'shen, who now looked like a clustered blob of mangled twisting flesh with tentacles stemming out from all sides and a single beak like mouth, gaping wide as it swallowed whole victims in the blood laden streets.
Paul breathed deep, closing his eyes before approaching the beast. Maya could only watch.
Paul spread out his arms....
Tal'shen grasped him, dangling him above his mouth.
Just then, tears filled Paul's eyes as he began to remember. He remembered the woman winking at him when he was 17; she looked just like Maya. He remembered why he came to London, why he got on the train, but most of all, he remember the redheaded epilepti

Paul lowered to the ground and hugged Maya tightly in a loving embrace.
"Everything is going to be ok now."
Maya then collapsed on to the floor and her body shook in violent spasms.
Maya's mouth peeled open like a sack of dead flesh. She exhaled a dying moan as her body melted like candle wax boiling into a red stump of slimey flesh that seared through the floorboards like sulphuric acid.
The windows began to fog and the room walls blackened like hot cigarrette butts as the sound of demonic bull-like grunts warped any dillusions of victory Paul had into unholy nightmarish madness. The wallpaper of the room then peeled open revealing London.
But their was no London, no sounds, just white blinding fog in all directions. As he gazed up he saw millions of dead bodies spiraling in the air of this ugly abyss.

Chapter 8 - Sarratum
The screams of chaos echoed Tal'shen's ears as she neared her destiny in London. Random fires were burning brightly from buildings and vehicles alike. Tal'shen looked impassively at the hands of Big Ben as they fell off into the darkness below. She had smashed into the face of time as she searched to find a building high enough to see the city.
Tal'shen knew Lysanna was dead but she could still feel her. She scanned the streets for her Mother's presence.
Her mind led her to an old derelict building to the north. She scrambled quickly and hopped from one building to another. She soon found herself on top of the empty building. Running, she smashed into the door that led down into the apartments. She clambered down the stairs and stopped at the third floor.
She quieted her mind again. She found the source across the hallway and sprinted to the door. She turned the knob easily and contracted her body so she could fit into the narrow doorway. Searching t

Paul looked up at the sky. "I know how to stop it," he said, "but I'll need your help."
But Lysanna's already won, Maya thought. This world is going to end.
Maya felt a sudden tightness, hard and cold as steel, around the base of her spine. She was jerked into the air next to Paul; she knew she was under his power.
"If you didn't want to stop it, then why the hell did you bring me back?!"
"Because you don't want Lysanna to win?" Paul said, finishing Maya's thought.
Stunned, Maya nodded. Saving this world was just a secondary goal, a cherry on top. It would be nice if it happened, but it wasn't her main concern. Her main desire was to see Lysanna fail.
"Lysanna has already failed," Paul said.
"How--" Maya began.
"--you're easy to read," Paul finished. "Besides, Tal'Shen is the problem now, not Lysanna."
Paul could obviously read her mind now. She began t

"Paul, you have to focus. How do we stop her?" Maya said regaining her composure.
"We? WE! Why the hell do you want to stop her? She's one of you!" Paul said sternly stepping towards Maya. Maya reached for her blade.
"Paul, is this you or am speaking to . . ." Maya said.
"I am Paul, but I am so many more as well. In the beginning Man created God . . ."

Standing agape in front of Tal'shen, he drowned beneath her shadow; the harsh yellow light of the streetlamp beyond struck a sickly halo upon her, a vile crown for the new queen of this world.
The mass of flesh before him pulsed and writhed, tentacles swum languidly in the acid air emanating from her, burning all around her, making her at home.
Tal'shen's many mouths spoke at once, each trapped behind a curved beak that could barely shape human words.
Through the chaotic cacophony, Paul made out: "I knew you would come. Give it back to me".
"I do not have it" Paul lied.
The words "Foolish flesh-thing, I see it within you" found themselves in the air around him.

Odyssey II: Chapter 8: Deeper Into The Earth
With the stockpile of weapons attached to her body, Maya was uncomfortable with how close Paul held her, but she said nothing. Even if she had voiced her thoughts, he would not have heard her. Paul was clearly intent upon something he heard elsewhere.
Maya could hear and see nothing apart from water, wind, and endless miles of sewage tunnels. They were flying super-hero-style through the dark labyrinth, Maya cradled in Paul's arms as the tops of their heads nearly brushed the sewer's ceiling.
Paul had made sense when he pointed out that this whole thing had begun - for him - underground and Lysanna hadn't just been making use of the public transit system out of convenience.
By tunnelling deeper into the earth, Tal'shen could begin generating seismic waves and playing havoc with the city's foundations. The oversized squid-creature could quickly and easily drop the city and flood it. It would be an ideal spawning ground within days and

Maya sat once more in her black van. In the driver's seat sat stoic Ivan, in the back huddled the rest of the team, all that remained of the Protection Force. The PF had once numbered over two hundred but was now under twenty and all of those twenty were nervous and doubtful of victory in this last battle.
Even as they traveled through the London streets at break-neck speeds, it was hard to follow Paul as he hovered a meter above the ground and just as far above the speed limit.
People, civilians, were moving in every direction, some in cars, some on bicycles, many on foot, but all were in the way. They should have been forgiven for not understanding the important business the non-descript black van was on or the massive amount of firearms and explosives contained inside. With the news of Tal'shen's attack on the city being explained as an out-of-hand prank, the innocents on the street should have been forgiven for being in the way of th
