Artist's StatementGorgon derives from the Greek word gorgós, meaning dreadful, and is used to describe a female monster. Medusa is probably the most notorious gorgon from Ancient Greek myth. Armed with hair made of snakes and a horrifying gaze that turned those who beheld it to stone, she is dangerous to the highest degree.
Medusa symbolizes the sexuality, intelligence and power of women. Yet the alluring curves of her physicality hide a danger within. The myth teaches us not to judge anything or anyone by appearances. In this image Medusas eyes remain in shadow, giving us a brief chance to look upon her. Artwork Copyright © Mike Nash |
